An update. When they happen, if you're in a mission, wait for it to be finished, then complete your mission then close the game and relaunch it.

it is a game update.

You can either wait it out or exit and log in later for the update.

If you are in your orbiter and doing stuff just wait so you can see when they deployment is complete. It will give you 15 mins after that once you are in your orbiter but if you are mid mission you can complete and log out for the update when done.

Overall it is very seamless for updates so just carry on.

It's like a regular fix, but warmer. Therefor, it is not a cold fix.

Hotfix is an unscheduled patch or update. Usually for patching up recently reported problems in a game, such as bugs or broken mechanics. Basically it's an "oh ♥♥♥♥ I forgot to put in some blue lemme fix that real quick...and okay you're good to go" of updates for whatever game involved

All it really means is that it's possible to apply the update while the game is live (running "hot"), hence being able to update your game while you're in the middle of a mission (and told to stay in the mission), rather than forcing you to log out or shut the game off (in which case the game no longer running "hot")

No the actual meaning is tied to the update type.

We get mainline updates that are the big things. Basically DE Steve was saying they have a build that is not public that gets tweaked. As things work they do updates in small parts as "hotfixes" .. but when the non public build has so much change they do a "mainline" update instead.

It sounds like you're thinking of something that's a little bit unrelated to what makes an update a hotfix or not.

As long as there is no player downtime (if the update can be installed without interrupting your mission or requiring you to log out), it is considered a hotfix. Smaller updates and patches just happen to be easier to release without any downtime, since there would be a small amount of data to download.

Mainline updates will usually be several gigabytes, far too big to patch in live, so they almost always require the player to exit and relaunch. Since they have to relaunch and download the update that way, the update no longer classifies as a "hot" fix.
Hotfixes are fixes that are out of your league... actually out of all our leagues.

Only the sports boys get the hotfixes... we have to just settle on getting patches, and most patches are 'large' (but hey they got alot more too em than those damn Hotfixes).

Any hotfix red text I remember seeing in this game is talking about red text download and needing deployment and a restart.
