Here here! I'm sure they have learned. Third seasons and other seasons after that shouldn't take a whole month or more to start.
Plus, that's 10 strains, every two weeks. And you're SOL if you miss it. The Derelict literally never goes anywhere.
So, Nightwave was a great thing for Kavats.
Alerts needed to go. At least with Nightwave we got better rewards for doing easy tasks instead of doing random missions for minimal credits and crap resources.
So when you say "Nightwave was great for Kavats" you are 100% incorrect in that statement, Nightwave took away one opportunity but failed to give another so now the only way to get the DNA is to, once again, farm for it. That is not a good trade to me.
Changes to Kavat Genetic Codes - Abridged
Working backwards from this.
Current Kavat Genetic Code Chance - 25%
Before Nightwave Code Chance - 15%
Original Code Chance (half of before Nightwave chance) - 7.5%
Currently speaking, out of four Kavats that spawn in a Derelict mission, there's a good chance that one of them will spawn with a genetic code. Previously, that number would be a one in seven good chance. And originally, it would be a one in fourteen chance.
So before Nightwave, there would be a one in seven chance of a Kavat spawning with a genetic code attached to it in any Derelict mission. I've played enough Derelict missions where I've seen zero Kavats as I'm bullet jumping through, and when I have been kavat hunting I generally don't see many times where there's as many as seven Kavats. What I do see, often, is a group of two Kavats. A 25% chance is a lot better for two Kavats than a 15%.
So yes, Nightwave made it far, far easier to scan Kavats on the Derelict and get a reasonable amount of codes.
The Derelict is the main, intended way of getting Kavat codes. In addition just holding a Synthesis scanner out when entering a room and looking for glowy things that resemble big cats is all that it takes to find a Feral Kavat. As for scanning them, any number of crowd control abilities.
That's nice. I still don't have an Adarza that isn't ugly as sin and waiting for the chance of being online when a psuedo-random generation of a mission that lasts for 2 hours, at most, to give me what I want in a two week rotation, I'd like my codes in an accessible way.
If I got one Kavat code a day from running a few Derelict missions, that'd be 14 genetic codes over the course of a two week period, rather than just 10. That takes out the randomness of when the alert goes up, whether or not I'm able to complete said alert, oh and I can do it multiple times per play session rather than once over a whole two weeks.
One minute to craft a Derelict key for exterminate (more Kavats) or capture (vault hunting + Kavats). Synthesis Scanner to scan the Kavats with infinite charges. 25% of any given Kavat spawning with a genetic code. Radial blind to stun the Kavats. Literally any weapon to kill the Infested. Get to it.
What other option was there to begin with for Kavat codes other than farming? Wait for the alerts? 14 week period, if lucky. Buy them with plat? Ha, plat has to be farmed. Buy plat to buy the codes? That's skipping the grind the game is built around and why people buy plat to begin with. Whole game is grind.
Specters of the Rail - July 8th, 2016 - Introduced Kavat Codes
Update 19.1 - November 11th, 2016 - Added Kavat Codes to Alerts
4 months in-between Kavat codes being introduced, and them being added to alerts. So, literally only able to farm for them. With a 7.5% chance of any Kavat spawning with a code. Gee, that's typical DE bullcrap grinds, isn't it?
Now what is that number again now? Oh right, 25%. If I took 7 minutes to complete an exterminate + get a single Kavat code + get a corrupted mod, I'd have a Kavat in an hour and a half. Sure, the alert makes is so one can get a Kavat literally in one mission. But the alert only ever existed to fix the band aid of how low the drop chances were. Now that DE finally fixed the drop chances, the alert's purpose is no longer needed. It was a nice alert, but it's no longer needed. Because the grind's no longer intolerable, the grind is now fair.
DE already came out and said they are waiting for the next nightwave to get verification for consoles, then they will drop it all at once. Why? No clue, aside from it feels like they only drop something on PC first when beta testers are needed.
If they are going to cycle the end rewards to something unique again I hope we aren't held back as much as I'd just like to get it done and not have to worry about it timing out.
It'll most likely come back in a new way.
