DE already said that it was a UI bug and even though items weren't listed as returned when killing a lich, they actually were. They since fixed the bug.
If trade is successful then you get the item and lose platinum
If trade failed then transaction does not happen. People do not read those prompts, they just click OK and leave, had many people just leave after trade failed to only realize it failed after I told them.
I agree with this. I have had people leave the moment they hit the "Accept Trade" button and never even waited to see if it was successful or not. It's a common problem with people trading. Reading seems to be too much work for some and if the trade isn't successful they come to the forum crying it was a "bug" or someone "scammed" them. A little effort goes a long way.
