My problem with Nightwave
I haven't been very active since the initial launch of Nightwave with the Wolf event, so I don't quite know how the community has reacted to the system, or what changes have been made. That said, I really, really don't like it, and it has nothing to do with it being grindy.

One of my favorite aspects of Warframe has always been my freedom to go at my own pace, and in the manner I choose. If a new gun/frame comes out, but the content needed to get it's parts isn't fun, I can do fissures instead and use the platinum I make to get the thing. If an event came around and I was playing another game, no big deal; that event will still be there in a week. Don't want to do invasions? The clan dojo lets you build mutagen masses/detonite injectors/fieldrons for more common resources.

Nightwave throws this pretty much entirely out the window. Sure, you can't normally trade event rewards; but normal events don't change what your mission is if you decide to play something else for a couple days. They don't add a banner to your escape menu, constantly nagging you to say "did you do your dailies?" And your weeklies?" And even if they're content I might not necessarily like, I could at least just grind it ALL out at once with some friends, and never have to do it again.

Now, when I log in, I almost immediately want to not play anymore. I see a wall of time-limited missions that I feel like I'm being forced to do, whether I enjoy them or not, because if I don't I can't have the shiny thing. And instead of getting it out of the way, I have to chip away at it day after day, week after week. Now, I don't know what the actual amount you need to do for max rank is... but I also don't particularly care. My problem with Nightwave is that just looking at it demotivates me. It makes me feel like I "have" to do something every single time I log in, and it gets to be the one to decide what that is, not me. That kind of nagging kills games for me.

I'm sure plenty of people don't have this issue; they might even enjoy having some daily goals to focus on. And for those people- I'm happy for you. Just sharing my feelings on the subject.

It would be fine if Nightwave didn't have exclusive rewards and instead was this system that gets you access to rewards like catalysts, reactors, nitain and cosmetic helmets. Like if you could safely ignore it at no penalty, without missing out on anything long-term.

The fact that Nightwave throws in unique stuff you have to get within this time limit, like that armour and emotes in the Wolf was what just instantly demotivated me last time and made me take several months off. I restarted playing after Nightwave ended, and I had fun again. Now Nightwave intermission is back and I feel burnout just kick in all of a sudden. It's odd.

Instead of being these little tasks that reward you for playing the game the way you want, that you can gradually just earn, it's a checklist you *need* to do whether it's content you like, or hate. And that does demotivate me from playing. At all.
Really if you got instantly demotivated due to the Wolf armor and emote then I would think you were probably ready to take a break an were just looking for an excuse.... I mean these are things you can ignore at no penalty. Wolf will return eventually.

The old alert system would demand specific jobs at extreme time limited periods... as far as I can tell the new system offers much more freedom of choice.

It's really not that.
I like Warframe. I like playing it on my own. I hate the idea of an overarching burden that I have to devote my entire game time to complete it within the allocated time. If I do not have the time or will to do it this season, neither will I the next or one after with how progress will reset each time.

There is more freedom in choice in rewards, and I agree. That is the good part of Nightwave.

The bad part of it there is no freedom in choice for the content I want to do. I have to fulfil these tasks regardless of whether I like them or not, to progress in Nightwave. Given the limited time I have to allocate to Warframe, I do not wish to be forced to do stuff I don't want to do.

And if you want to say "ItS oNLy CosMeTiCS. YuO nO nEd dAt." Don't.

Nightwave was supposed to be this casual incentive that rewards you for doing in-game activity. IF there were no season ranks, no season specific currency, Instead you get creds every 10k points and choose what reward you want or save them for the next season, I assure you Nightwave would feel more like a companion rather than an overarchimg burden.

I don't like Nightwave. And it makes me dislike a game I normally loved.

Edit: and it finally clicked to me.

Ultimately even if I DO do the Nightwave things, it just feels like I wasted my time. I did not accomplish anything worthwhile to further myself on Warframe. Whereas in the same time I could have done things that benefitted me more.

And so as I look at Warframe's Nightwave, I immediately get the overwhelming sense I am about to waste my time and just close the game.

2 hours a week is "entire game time"?

Quality thread. Nightwave challenges are (more often than not) either inane in challenge or demand you play Warframe a specific way. The urge is to get it all done at once, and creates a chain of events with a lack of self-determinism that usually takes several hours to complete.

With Alerts, you could skip the alerts that you didn't need. Nightwave demands you come back to something that's going to take several hours, several times while getting old Alert rewards until eventually the special loot shows up. The next time I launch Warframe feels like I'm not in control of how I want to play.

I hear you, but nightwave is primarily being about replacing alerts for nitain/aura & stuff. Before, you had to play at certain time to get those. You missed the alert? too bad, wait 2 months for aura or helmet... That wasn't a better system than nightwave wouldn't you agree? Now you pretty much can play whenever you want, do 2/3 weeklies and you can get whatever you want. No need to watch constantly at an alert notifier website.

All other rewards from nightwave ranks can be viewed as rewards from an event. And as any single event in the game, it is a finite period of time. So if before you didn't played event in time, you didn't get the rewards. Same as nightwave's, though this event is a constant grind, you cannot rush it in an afternoon like other event (even if 90% of weeklies can actually be rushed in an afternoon). Yes, ranking up nightwave can be tedious, but i don't really see the difference with another event.

The current system isn't as i would immagine it but it's still a pretty nice thing to have i think. What i'd change is at every rank, you get some creds, enough to buy you like 2 nitains. It would make creds more linear.

I'm genuinely curious where you don't agree with me and why. Is it just the visual milestone and daily tasks that drive you back? You would prefer to get only a ton of Monthlies (or even
a nightwave serie-long jobs)?

Or we cut entirely nightwave ranks to only keep nitain, helmet and aura offerings (cf my 1st §)? If so, in the current system you do not lose a single thing, there's just more rewards.

Agree, simply dont do it, is it hard?
I can easily ignore some events or missions i refuse to do, why cant you? Some people are grateful with the rewards they offer, umbral mod, potatoes, color palette, ephemera, by such doing some simple missions, although not all is easy, but those some simple missions will give you rewards anyway

If they adding a "Nora Standing" to be gained from running missions and a few Nora Credits to be gained from each completion of a mission, more depending on the difficulty, it wouldn't feel like you have to grind and force yourself into specific activities to complete the challenges.

Nightwave is kind of a mixed bag, in my opinion, and I think that fact alone should immediately have discounted the complete removal of the older alert system. Some things are better, some worse.

I see a lot of people saying that its better than waiting for rewards to pop up in alerts, and that's valid, and probably mostly true, but people also talk about how its not a chore, you are going to do these missions anyway, and then in that case I don't see the difference in waiting for an alert, you are going to play the game anyway, at some point something will pop up. Not to mention the rewards are typically lesser in quantity then the previous alerts. Someone had done up a spreadsheet, maybe I'll find it.

Being an older player, the biggest thing I find is that it actually takes away from actually having things to do, you do have these chores, not just random alerts that pop up that you can pick and choose between what is interesting to you. I largely have nothing to do in the game, so it was nice to have something appear and go, hey, I could find a use for that, or that could be interesting, etc.

Not to mention the way they tell you to (sometimes) spend the resources that you have worked for, like the polarizing "challenge." I don't enjoy being told what to do with my forma, or to gild something I don't have as I've already leveled all my amps and zaws, and keep only what I'm interested in. So not only do you need to rank something which you feel no obligation to do, please waste this standing that you could use on literally anything else. Its not about how much you have, its still a waste. So its just a sink for time and resources that I don't need to spend.

All that being said, I can see why people would like it, and I would prefer to have some kind of mashup of both systems, but new and old players should both be the demographic here, and I don't find much caters to older players these days, should work on keeping loyal players just as much as getting new ones. Nightwave seems to be controversial so far, so I don't see why it should stay exactly as is. Hoping that kingpin will work itself into it nicely though, been looking forward to that for a while, and maybe some of the newer systems will differentiate it from the previous series.

Anyway, that's my rant.

tl;dr

need a "Star-Child" voice pack for ordis.

I totally agree with you, I bought Prey the other day and have had to share the time between both games, I feel like I'm forced to play Warframe non-stop if I want to get the rewards and that feeling is annoying. So I totally agree with you.

Before nightwave i run a notification app, got some interesting notification, did the job and logged out. I was stuck at mr5 did not see a point to run random missions and broke some fissures here and there. Now im mr 12 finished second dream and heading for higher mr to get rivens to use. Nightwave showed me whats awesome about this game. Sometimes i laugh about the fact people liked it when energy sipphon popped at saturday at 5am. I was lucky there but friends gave up on this.look at active player numbers, nightwave did something for warframe, and i kinda feel the people who feel burnout want everything, farm everything super efficient, know every secret before standing in front of it and skip every time gate with plat or methods. Meh, i loved first nightwave git banned because of technical error and missed two weeks of it, so i did everything i could and still only hit wolf rang 27. And still im here telling you nightwave is awesome

farm everything super efficient

That's a big problem with the current mentality of the meta runners. "If it's longer than 2 mins, it's boring because everything dies without me even seeing them". If you make the game as easy as possible, why complain it's tedious. Don't take that Catchmoon with Arca Plasmor and a Meme'd Plagued Zaw along a Saryn, take something and have some fun, you can still do it, but also have fun while doing it.

"BuT i WaNt It DoNe AsAp" - not the game's fault.

Absolutly true, had one pal in my friend list, one day he wrote me he can't do it anymore, he is too bored with farming standing for solaris to get baruk, he was 8h a day at corpus base with some hydroid to get it as fast as possible. He then told me there is no gameplay anymore only boring farming, he dissabled game sound cause he could not take the dieing sounds anymore. I just shaked my head... he was the same guy starting at mr4 and rushing to mr19 in less than a month. He was the same guy with Saryn, ignis wraith, in every mission. I even stopped playing with him just because he killed everything, with no effort. I always felt like leeching.

I really love the moments when it gets tough, once a friend left me alone in a defense and i had to force myself through wave 20-25 with an barely leveld frost with no mods. Times i will remember, while some saryn rushbuilds are forgotten the time the mission is finished.

On the other end of the spectrum you have me, who just likes seeing ways to kill the most amount of enemies in the most overkill way possible. That's why I play Nidus, I won't die while screwing around with various weapons. By the way Castanas+Multishot isn't as effective as I previously thought.
