The old alert system would demand specific jobs at extreme time limited periods... as far as I can tell the new system offers much more freedom of choice.
I like Warframe. I like playing it on my own. I hate the idea of an overarching burden that I have to devote my entire game time to complete it within the allocated time. If I do not have the time or will to do it this season, neither will I the next or one after with how progress will reset each time.
There is more freedom in choice in rewards, and I agree. That is the good part of Nightwave.
The bad part of it there is no freedom in choice for the content I want to do. I have to fulfil these tasks regardless of whether I like them or not, to progress in Nightwave. Given the limited time I have to allocate to Warframe, I do not wish to be forced to do stuff I don't want to do.
And if you want to say "ItS oNLy CosMeTiCS. YuO nO nEd dAt." Don't.
Nightwave was supposed to be this casual incentive that rewards you for doing in-game activity. IF there were no season ranks, no season specific currency, Instead you get creds every 10k points and choose what reward you want or save them for the next season, I assure you Nightwave would feel more like a companion rather than an overarchimg burden.
I don't like Nightwave. And it makes me dislike a game I normally loved.
Edit: and it finally clicked to me.
Ultimately even if I DO do the Nightwave things, it just feels like I wasted my time. I did not accomplish anything worthwhile to further myself on Warframe. Whereas in the same time I could have done things that benefitted me more.
And so as I look at Warframe's Nightwave, I immediately get the overwhelming sense I am about to waste my time and just close the game.
well then dont fricken do night wave if you hate it so mutch jez you elite players allways about you you you
With Alerts, you could skip the alerts that you didn't need. Nightwave demands you come back to something that's going to take several hours, several times while getting old Alert rewards until eventually the special loot shows up. The next time I launch Warframe feels like I'm not in control of how I want to play.
I hear you, but nightwave is primarily being about replacing alerts for nitain/aura & stuff. Before, you had to play at certain time to get those. You missed the alert? too bad, wait 2 months for aura or helmet... That wasn't a better system than nightwave wouldn't you agree? Now you pretty much can play whenever you want, do 2/3 weeklies and you can get whatever you want. No need to watch constantly at an alert notifier website.
All other rewards from nightwave ranks can be viewed as rewards from an event. And as any single event in the game, it is a finite period of time. So if before you didn't played event in time, you didn't get the rewards. Same as nightwave's, though this event is a constant grind, you cannot rush it in an afternoon like other event (even if 90% of weeklies can actually be rushed in an afternoon). Yes, ranking up nightwave can be tedious, but i don't really see the difference with another event.
The current system isn't as i would immagine it but it's still a pretty nice thing to have i think. What i'd change is at every rank, you get some creds, enough to buy you like 2 nitains. It would make creds more linear.
I'm genuinely curious where you don't agree with me and why. Is it just the visual milestone and daily tasks that drive you back? You would prefer to get only a ton of Monthlies (or even
a nightwave serie-long jobs)?
Or we cut entirely nightwave ranks to only keep nitain, helmet and aura offerings (cf my 1st §)? If so, in the current system you do not lose a single thing, there's just more rewards.
I see a lot of people saying that its better than waiting for rewards to pop up in alerts, and that's valid, and probably mostly true, but people also talk about how its not a chore, you are going to do these missions anyway, and then in that case I don't see the difference in waiting for an alert, you are going to play the game anyway, at some point something will pop up. Not to mention the rewards are typically lesser in quantity then the previous alerts. Someone had done up a spreadsheet, maybe I'll find it.
Being an older player, the biggest thing I find is that it actually takes away from actually having things to do, you do have these chores, not just random alerts that pop up that you can pick and choose between what is interesting to you. I largely have nothing to do in the game, so it was nice to have something appear and go, hey, I could find a use for that, or that could be interesting, etc.
Not to mention the way they tell you to (sometimes) spend the resources that you have worked for, like the polarizing "challenge." I don't enjoy being told what to do with my forma, or to gild something I don't have as I've already leveled all my amps and zaws, and keep only what I'm interested in. So not only do you need to rank something which you feel no obligation to do, please waste this standing that you could use on literally anything else. Its not about how much you have, its still a waste. So its just a sink for time and resources that I don't need to spend.
All that being said, I can see why people would like it, and I would prefer to have some kind of mashup of both systems, but new and old players should both be the demographic here, and I don't find much caters to older players these days, should work on keeping loyal players just as much as getting new ones. Nightwave seems to be controversial so far, so I don't see why it should stay exactly as is. Hoping that kingpin will work itself into it nicely though, been looking forward to that for a while, and maybe some of the newer systems will differentiate it from the previous series.
Anyway, that's my rant.
tl;dr
need a "Star-Child" voice pack for ordis.
I totally agree with you, I bought Prey the other day and have had to share the time between both games, I feel like I'm forced to play Warframe non-stop if I want to get the rewards and that feeling is annoying. So I totally agree with you.
That's a big problem with the current mentality of the meta runners. "If it's longer than 2 mins, it's boring because everything dies without me even seeing them". If you make the game as easy as possible, why complain it's tedious. Don't take that Catchmoon with Arca Plasmor and a Meme'd Plagued Zaw along a Saryn, take something and have some fun, you can still do it, but also have fun while doing it.
"BuT i WaNt It DoNe AsAp" - not the game's fault.
Absolutly true, had one pal in my friend list, one day he wrote me he can't do it anymore, he is too bored with farming standing for solaris to get baruk, he was 8h a day at corpus base with some hydroid to get it as fast as possible. He then told me there is no gameplay anymore only boring farming, he dissabled game sound cause he could not take the dieing sounds anymore. I just shaked my head... he was the same guy starting at mr4 and rushing to mr19 in less than a month. He was the same guy with Saryn, ignis wraith, in every mission. I even stopped playing with him just because he killed everything, with no effort. I always felt like leeching.
I really love the moments when it gets tough, once a friend left me alone in a defense and i had to force myself through wave 20-25 with an barely leveld frost with no mods. Times i will remember, while some saryn rushbuilds are forgotten the time the mission is finished.
On the other end of the spectrum you have me, who just likes seeing ways to kill the most amount of enemies in the most overkill way possible. That's why I play Nidus, I won't die while screwing around with various weapons. By the way Castanas+Multishot isn't as effective as I previously thought.
