And if you just wanna be a "free player" in D2, then good luck farming those Enchantment Cores, while we who own Forsaken DLC can buy them from NPC.
Warframe is a third person shooter that focuses on ability spam and can be played entirely solo. You have 41 different characters to play as, each of which can be built in multiple different ways. There are people who've poured thousands of hours on Warframe and they've all done it for PvE. No one touches the PvP in Warframe as it sucks and isn't being actively developed. Warframe is funded by all sorts of microtransactions and timegate skips and its updates and expansions are entirely free.
Neither of them are P2W. (Unless you count expansion model as P2W. D2 expansions may also bring guns that are OP in PvP for a while so I'm not sure if I should've said this.)
Both are very well optimized.
Both have timegates.
Both try to get you to log in and do daily/weekly stuff.
I came from more of a FPS background anyway... Warframe I like since the camera is so close you can easily forget you are even in 3rd person unless you need it. I dislike POE for the far away 3rd person and one of the Mass effect games the camera was so bad it put me off 3rd person shooters for years
I understand the differences in the games and have even made fun of Warframe people asking for "end game" like Destiny that makes you buy more stuff and makes all your old stuff pointless.
I did not know about the forced PVP stuff.. I do not like that, also not a fan of The Division "Dark Zone" stuff.
Regardless of its limitations on builds and ways to play.. I will try it, not even thinking it will replace warframe or anything, but for free and shooting stuff why not? Even if I only get a couple of hundred hours out of it <for me that is nothing> I have nothing to lose.
The sci-fi shooter is enough of a similarity to me... not meaning to imply they are the same game or anything.
I really love Gauss since his kit really feels focused on shooting guns... and his weapons are perfect for that.
Destiny 2 is by no means a bad game, but it is very stingy with granting the player loot; most likely a remnant from when Activision was calling the shots, but not a good thing to leave untouched for so long.
The story in the core game, year 1 expansions, and Forsaken, is a joke. There are elements to the universe and lore that have so much potential and they squander it every step of the way.
The general gameplay is fun and if you're going to play PvP I would only recommend playing Gambit; unless you want Call of Duty with a Destiny skin on it. Then sure, go play Crucible.
Do not for the life of you play the game solo. You will quickly get bored and the game will actively punish you for trying to play solo. Can't have people playing by themselves in our always-online social experience!
Warframe is a good game in many aspects, except for the endless grind.
It's a grind from the moment you start the game; you grind to reach the endgame where everyone else is at.
You grind to build Warframes.
You grind to build weapons.
You grind for materials to build Warframes and weapons.
An endless loop of grinding to build Warframes and weapons to make grinding for Warframes and weapons easier.
But even through all the grinding the gameplay stays fun, and you can solo darn near most of the content in the game if you wanted.
They're both free games, it costs you nothing but your time to download and try them out.
I personally don't like Destiny 2 as much as I do Warframe, but I'll play it when I want to shut my brain off for an hour or two.
One thing is that I do have friends who I have played 1000's of hours with, but they all got bored of warframe. It will be nice having a game we can all play again, and don't mind if I only play it when they are around anyway.
As the two games have very different playstyles, I would realistically say play both and stick with the one you enjoy more.
But if you're trying to compare them on paper, I would point out that Destiny 2 has story and gameplay content gated behind real money purchases. Warframe does not.
I said "seems to be" because all we have right now is trailers and a couple videos, so the stuff that's changing the game presumably for the better isn't out yet.
Trailers and discussions can only tell so much. When Shadowkeep actually releases, we'll experience what has been discussed for ourselves, and it will tell us if Bungie is making steps in the right direction. For now, wait and see for yourself.
