Cetus Wisp: the Worst Farming Resource
From my experience, I usually see 0-2 every map load. And yes, I check every body of water, so there sometimes are confirmed 0 that spawn. I don't know where people regularly find 4-6 without boosters, although there was one rare night where I did get 4.

And despite their rarity, unlike most other farmable resources that run out often, you get absolutely nothing else, no credits, no xp, if you want to be efficient with it. Although Sentirum and Nyth share the same frustration, at least they spawn in larger numbers and require less of each to build the arcanes. The combined sheer boredom from collecting nearly nothing but wisps, plus the severely bugged archwing controls on plains, just add up to perhaps one of the worst farming experiences Warframe can offer. Unless I'm seriously missing something regarding farming wisps, I think something needs to be done to make collecting them faster.

And fyi tier 5 bounties are even slower than direct farming due to their unreliable drop table on uncommon-tier items, and they can't benefit from boosters.

The fastest way to farm wisps I have found is setting up volt for power and duration. then running all the loot radar mods and then just running near the main bodies of water getting any that have spawned and tehn returning to cetus then just doiong that over and over again until daylight comes. It is usually like 3-6 per lap and a lap doesnt really take more than 5 minutes. It is tedious though like everything else you have to farm on the plains.

I am just curious how do you distinguish normal loot vs centus wisp on your radar ?

big ol' nekros desecrate for you

You can't distinguish them. They use regular loot icons. The best way to figure it out is by knowing they're always along the banks of water bodies, excluding the beach and pools too small to fish in.

Yeah, it's kind of a "skill" in itself just to memorize which exact spots are going to be random crap boxes, and which might be wisps... but generally, they're right at the edge of the water, so if you see an icon a ways inland, it's likely to just be a maprico bush or something.

My favorite method of obtaining them is to be doing something completely unrelated, stumble upon one, go "Ooh, Cetus Wisp! Yoink!" and then get back to whatever it was. Of course, that method produces nowhere near enough of them for anything except possibly gilding a Zaw or two.

If you farm Eidolons, you can trade the cores for standing and then buy the whisp.

Yeah but at 10k each you can only get 2.7 per day at max MR because of standing cap. You should be able to get more than that per cycle during the night and more than 1 cycle a night phase.

My personal favorite for wisp runs is Zephyr -- huge duration 1 takes you between lakes fast plus you can look straight down and hit 1 agian to dive bomb and cut it short if you need to plus 3 is a run speed boost for the long runs down the center lake shore where using 1 would take you too far. Nova and volt have their advantages too but I still like zephyr the most.

I have to admit, I'm impressed that people are finding different preferences even for something as ostensibly tedious as gathering wisps. It's encouraging; to me, Warframe has always been about finding the way you like to do things, rather than the "one right way" to do things. Granted, some things still have a more convenient method, but I respect anyone who looks for a viable alternative instead of reading one guide and just doing things that way. If they have fun that way, then fair enough, but it's not for me.

On another note related to the overall topic, I seem to recall that Operation Plague Star repeats every now and then, and reputation gained from that can be used to purchase Cetus Wisps, among other things? Might be a (slightly) more viable way than buying them from the Quills, at least.
Yes operation plague star could let you bang out dozens of wisps quickly from the standing turnin (no daily cap on it).

However, the plague star bounties themselves reward wisps fairly often and wisps aren't too difficult to gather at up to 15-20 a night if you're dedicated, lucky, not oo laggy and practiced.

Plague star ALSO offers fully made formas as a reward from standing purchase... and formas are both slower to get and argueably needed in higher volumes. There is a definate limit to how many wisps you need for PoE crafts / gildings but every single weapon fram companion sentinel archwing kdrive "can" use formas.

I think last plague star I saw someone saying they got around 200 formas from it. I'm not sure if they slept at all during the event to get that many though. :steamhappy:

Range Eff Nova is best... you can usually portal vist every pond they spawn at in under a couple of seconds each. And you also want the loot detection mods for your pet and yourself so you have as big as you can loot detector, that way you can see them on the map as you go towards each pond (just look ahead and see if there are any crates there since if there is no crates but still a loot icon then its 99% a wasp)

Easiest way ive done it to be honest, just have to know which ponds spawn them and have a good sense of direction without using the map. I think the whole loop took on avaerage a minute or two to complete, then just pop back to cetus then back out again and rince and repeat (without boosters or smeeta buff you can get about 3-4 a loop usually)

So far doing 2 runs with my purpose built Zehper w/Helios Prime farming setup AND a chance booster I actually did not get any more then I had been getting back when I was still farming for whisps months ago. This is indeed a joke.
1st run was 2, second was 3.
