WTF is "The Index"?
And why does it exist?
It looks like some proof of concept someone threw together and forgot to delete from the live servers.
The whole experience was just bizarre.

Fun is subjective, and that doesn't answer my question.

Maybe you should phrase it as an actual question then and as less of a rant.

As for the question: you answered it yourself. Fun is subjective.

An "actual question" can be identified by the questionmark (?) at the end.
Example: Why does it exist?

As for your second point, fun is subjective. Yes. But whether it's fun or not isn't the topic at hand. I asked why it exists, and followed up with my opinion that it seems hastely put together and unfinished. It's just so ambiguous, like:
How does the point system work? Is it PvP or PvE? What are the rules? Who's the random cephalon announcer we haven't heard of before? How does this "sports arena fun time" place fit into lore at all? Why would our Tenno stop to play games between stealing intel and fending off an out-of-control interplanetary infestation?
Nothing is explained or even hinted at. It's just thrown in there haphazardly, and that's my issue with it. Why?

Those are the questions you could've asked from the start. The "questions" you had at first only had a question mark, but weren't phrased as questions, really. I can say "why the platypus?" or "why does it exist?" and it wouldn't really make a valid question to answer, question mark or no.

As for the questions, you can look all of them up easily at http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/The_Index.

Someone else can answer you lore questions, maybe. I'm tired.

Index is an arena type event, against Corpus, just like Rathuum against Grineer, that was introduced 1,5 years ago.

It was created as an alternative way of earning credits, that was the main reason in the first place. Moreover they crossed it over with Glast Gambit quest, linking Index with the lore of the game.

Interesting. Seems unnecessary, considering Dark Sectors, but okay. Thanks. ^^

It is indeed interesting after some math homework is done.

Wiki's don't tend to include motives in my experience.

The "unknown" cephalon is the same cephalon from Conclave's Cephalon Capture mode :DSEasy:

Yes, because you can earn 100k+ credits from less than 10 minutes in a Dark Sector along with some very nice mods.

Oh, wait. No. You can't.
That's what you get from the Index.
