That being said, the Dread and Cernos Prime do very different things. Dread is heavy single target damage with brutal crit/slash procs while Cernos Prime is for dealing with mobs. As far as which one you prefer to use, I guess you'll have to try them out for yourself.
Ya know, when will you Lenz guys comprehend that you are using a launcher with a bow mechanic rather than an actual bow? If someone wants a weapon with a massive aoe to blow themselves up with, they'll ask for it. Sheesh, that wasn't even relevant to the question.
But if the choices are strictly dread or cernos prime then dread due to the crits, damage, and its a common drop from stalker lol.
Wiki and ingame description said bow
so its a bow. Otherwise, it is irrevelant to the actual question.
For straight up damage, take Dread. There's more flexibility with Cernos P, but it doesn't have the raw power Dread can have. Even more so if you can get a good riven for it, and it's not overly difficult to buy a decent one, then roll it yourself until you have something you want to keep.
As an important-ish footnote, I'm talking about the weapons with formas invested on them as a standard.
For the obvious reason that its used like a launcher and not a bow, no matter what its in-game clasification is. Launchers deal large amounts of damage in an aoe, are loud, and have self damage. Most effective in open areas where stealth is no object and you are taking out groups of enemies rather than single targes. Bows are largely specialized tools that are designed for stealth gameplay. Here's an example use of a bow. You are on a stealth/rescue mission, but want to avoid alerting the guards so you take a bow to silently eliminate them, cameras, etc. As you can see, the playstyle of the Lenz is that of a launcher, not a bow.
My speculation as to why they classified it as a bow (and interestingly, the Lenz can't actually use some bow mods like Thunderbolt) is because they wanted a launcher weapon that you could take into bow only sorties. Its much like how you can take Bow-Guns into bow sorties even with their differences (bow guns are still more bow-like though with their stealth aspects).
So no, you can't go recommend a loud aoe weapon to someone as a replacement for a bow despite something being classifed as a bow, since the Lenz is hardly a replacement for a lot of what you use bows for. That's why it annoys me when you people come to these sort of threads and immediately recommend the Lenz.
Are you just gonna forget that there are things exist to make alarming weapon become silent ?
Answer me this, is the playstyle of the Lenz more similar to the Dread, or to the Ogris/Tonkor? And then stop arguing because it is obviously the same as the Launchers. So the next time someone asks about whether the Ogris or the Tonkor is better, you can be somewhat more relevant and bring up the Lenz. Thunderbolt is irrelevant here since the point of Thunderbolt is to convert bows into launchers (which Lenz can't equip since its already a launcher).
Anyways, let your response post be the last since this thread isn't about the Lenz, or the Zhuge, or the Attica, or the Paris, or any other bow, except Dread and Cernos Prime.
No matter what you say, it will always be a bow until DE decide to change it to launcher. Look at the Zarr, its launches cannon ball and also shoot like a shotgun with secondary fire but its a rifle. What im saying that Lenz is a unique bow. And if you did not realize that I say that the Lenz was irrelevant to the question, so why the passive aggressive attack ?
