Hit ground after falling for a bit.
It's a mod for your Warframe, so you don't need to hit the ground with your weapon.

to be precise : when you do a hard landing (or a marvel 3 point landing if you prefer) so you need to jump or fall from high enough

note : it doesn't work on valkyr as she can't do hard landing as a passive ability.

You shouldn't even do ground slam with melee because they disable Ground Slam for some reason. At least not for me.

You just have to land from a high distance. You also don't have to do a hard landing, but the effects are not necessarily consistant if you don't. Rhino has this as his passive ability, so you can try it out on him to see how it works.

Overall though, you are way way better off putting a sprint/bullet jumping mod on your warframe. That extra speed is a lot more useful than heavy impact. There just isn't usually enough space to include a non necessary mod like Heavy Impact in most builtds. Even with the sprint/bullet jumping mods, people usually end up putting those in their exilus slots.

Crouch + Jump is how you do a high jump. You can use that to get to high places and also initiate large slam attacks.

This. Passive's Rhino can help to "test" this mod without using it.

Why don't you just try it out. See if there's any difference? Explore the game.

Extra note: When you fall from a height that is high enough to trigger Heavy Impact your Warframe will be unable to move when they hit the ground as a little recovery animation plays out as they stand back up. This animation and stun can be avoided by always sliding (Crouching in a direction) before landing from high falls. However, it is interesting to note that the Heavy Impact effect (shockwave and sound effect) will still happen even from slide landings from high falls.
