objectively. It is the best single target shotgun in the game. It is the best shotgun when ti comes to insanely high leveled mobs. At sortie level and lower though the other shotguns easily outpreform it either with better fire rates or sobek and its acid shell aoe. Firing a drakgoon into a crowd of level 50 mobs will kill mobs faster than trying the same with a tigris prime.

since you are likely want to get mastery points from every source possible, you can at least craft all the shotguns (meta or not) too. also, remember that the effectivness is what makes a weapon "meta" - so don't blame the weapon, but their designer for it.

There is the option of going with a secondary shotgun like the Pyrana, Brahk, Detron, or the Akbronco Prime if you don't like the main shotguns.

The Astilla and the Arca Plasmor have different mechanics to the standard shotguns that you might enjoy (I'm going to assume that's what you mean by meta shotgun mechanics).The Drakgoon is also different, but that sort of charge mechanic on a shotgun definitely isn't for everyone.

I love the Boar Prime and the Strun Wraith, they can both hit 100% status which you need for shotguns. The Strun can also be build for a crit hybrid, and the Boar applies status like crazy. Both of them are viable into deep endgame, just don't expect the absurdity of the Tigris or Plasmor.

Arca plasmor is meta. But seeing corpses fly into the air high speed with explosive damage is kinda silly ;p

Meta is good but boring, fun is good but not meta... So combine those two!

Shotgun choices in this game are limited, so..Tigris and Hek (any of the variations) are the most logical choices.

Boar Prime is underrated, status builds on it burn armor to hell. Also its a full auto shotgun. Who doesn't like those?

Arca Plasmor or newly added Astilla are also very good choices. Although astilla is more like a slug rifle.
Arca Plasmor is badass though.

The Astilla and to some extent the Sobek function very similarly to the Boar Prime in terms of how they fire. The Astilla has the more unique effect since it fires explosive glass shells reminding me most of a non-archwing Grattler if anything.

Boar Prime is situationally fine, but since its not one of the best shotguns, its hard to justify paying the plat for it since its no longer commonly availible.
