Recommended build Mutalist Quanta
So I got this weapon called Mutalist Quanta, which is actually an interresting weapon, since it allows to place huge infested balls everywhere. They do look pretty cool. Now I'm quiet sure that this weapon has second purpose aside from placing balls: Dealing Damage.

At this moment I'm using this weapon to run around, placing balls everywhere, which don't influence the game at all and I want to change that: I do want to deal damage with them. With a little bit of luck they might turn out to be an efficient way to kill some enemies.

The Problem is: I have no clue what a nice Mutalist Quanta build looks like. Any recommendations? Should I just go classic with elemental mods and serration?

Summary: I want to deal damage with my balls, need a good build.

this just made my day.

Short answer: you're not really going to do damage with your balls, until they explode, which takes a while, and doesn't seem to have a huge radius (decent, but not huge).

Long answer: The mutalist quanta is a weird, tricky weapon. The orbs do fairly minor damage on contact, but are guaranteed to proc a status (either radiation by default, or any elements you put on it in addition), they also block enemy bullets, and add electricity damage and crit chance (a flat amount, not based on your weapon's crit chance, this is huge) to your and your allies' shots fired through them, then they explode after 9 seconds, doing decent electricity damage (plus elemental mods) in an okay radius. If you insist on doing damage with the balls ONLY, you'll just have to fire a bunch in the direction of the enemy, but spaced enough apart to not combine, and wait for the explosion while hoping the enemy stays there (blast or cold could help, I guess). Otherwise, probably the best use of the weapon is to use the orbs as a shield and a damage multiplier for the primary fire or for a secondary weapon. For mods, I'd recommend the standard Split Chamber + Serration, Vital Sense or Hammer Shot (but not Point Strike, all your crit chance comes from firing through the orbs) and mod for blast and toxin (which becomes corrosive when fired through the orbs) using dual stat elemental mods to your taste. With this, you can block off a hallway with an orb that blocks enemy bullets and has a good chance to CC anyone who tries to approach, do significant corrosive damage firing through the orb, and decent toxin damage (for corpus enemies) without firing through the orb. It works quite well against the corrupted faction.
There are only ever 2 builds for any normal weapon in the game.

Pure Elemental damage
High Status build with Elemental + Status mods

Crit weapon can't use anything but Crit build too.

That's how you build your weapon and it will not change unless DE actually 95% of the other mods useful.

So just slap as many damage mods on your weapon as you can. If it's still not killing enemies quick enough you will know that the gun isn't good.

Thx, that's what I was looking for.
So classic elemental build + Protective shieldlike placement + AkLex Prime as secondary
You said 'Vital Sense or Hammer Shot' - so shooting through the balls will actually profit from the crit damage multiplier.
It seems to me this could be a nice combination for Mesa. Might call it the MBC (Mesa balls combo)

I will definetly test the MBC once I've reached max Mastery Rank.

Sorry for the confusion, but Crit Damage mods only serve to help the M. Quanta ITSELF to benefit from shooting its primary fire through the balls. Other weapons will have to have their own crit damage mods (though it's possible the balls add some crit damage natively). The big benefits of the M. Quanta balls are it giving crit chance not based on the base crit chance of what's fired through it, and adding electricity damage (which combines/adds oddly, experiment in simulacrum and/or check the wiki)

I'll be honest: the Critmultiplier (1,5) of the mutalist quanta ain't very good. Therefor I don't think, it's worth. So I'll go for more status and elemental damage.
But a secondary with a base critmultiplier of at least 2,0 will definetly be highly profitable.

Further experiments are needed.

I also found this
'If enemies come into direct contact with the orb, they will turn against other enemies in the area temporarily if the player retreats from sight, similar to Nyx's Chaos ability. This is particularly useful against large groups of enemies with Eximus units or other heavy units. '
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Mutalist_Quanta (see notes)

'It appears that any weapon that can gain at least 38% base crit chance (with Primed Pistol Gambit) and combined with Hydraulic Crosshairs, will have the ability to red crit when fired through the bubbles.'

Doubt that will work.
Mesas Peacekeepers do not work like guns, they don't actually fire shots, nor are they hitscan pistols, they simply scan for enemies within sight and range and has them take damage. There is no trajectory calculated, no bullet is simulated, no actual shot goes anywhere, so Mesas 4 will not gain anything by firing through your balls, as they don't actually fire anything.

That's bad news for the Mesa Balls Combo :-(
