There's nothing wrong with clearing a planet. Chances are, in the future you'll get alerts, syndicate mission, invasion, or sortie in Mercury. Clearing all nodes in mercury also gives MR point too.

Afaik, you need to clear a node on mercury to unlock Mars, I don't remember which
You need to complete the Suisei node on Mercury before you're able to go to Mars.

ahh okay i didnt know about the mars or the mastery thing lol

you can always go back to it. what i did was i unlocked just enough nodes to have access to all of them or at least most of them in case there are alerts i would want to do. i suggest you do that as well because some alerts or invasions are too good to pass

but all my alerts say locked next to them

Mastery, releasing extractors (that collect resources) and alerts are the reasons that come on top of my head.

Also remember that the core of the game is the gameplay, if you are already considering that missions are a chore or that they waste time then you won't be lasting long in warframe as one of the thing you will be doing is repeating missions and you will only repeat them on the long term if you find the gameplay fun. The game doesn't have a difficulty slider, what you unlock and what you have available determines the difficulty you want for that particular moment, if you skip missions and just keep advancing forward and forward, you will likely face a difficulty wall later on, usually regarding mission mechanics and those are best learned at the very start of the game, you only push the difficulty further when you feel confortable with it, otherwise you will end up like the many players outthere who enter sorties and act as if it's the very 1st time doing the mission, very noticiable on core ship sabotages (some don't know how to do certain hazards), rescues (players use the front door), spy (often leads to a mission fail) and even assassinations (where players ask how to beat said boss).

It may seem like skiping is ideal, but when missions take a long time to finish, unpredictable missions conditions appear and you overthink what do next, when the % of quits is high and when the % of missions that failed are high, then the wasted time adds up and you end up with the worst of both worlds.

Wasted time and no fun while playing.
warframe wiki get familiar or waste time and resources for that special duh moment

you make alot of sense there. But i was just refering to the fact that it seemed at first glance that there was no progression from mercury because it doesnt lead directly to another planet. but i didnt know about the mission neccesary to go to mars

you get mastery for completeing missions you ahve not yet done as well... so its best to do every mission node...
