Can you get a virus/malware through the P2P in warframe?
Or in any videogame in general. (Hosting/connecting to a host)

No

Most likely, but probably really rare.

The risk is there since in essence you are connecting to other people to play games rather than a general server.

However, since we are using a medium(warframe client and steam) the securities will most likely prevent most malware and viruses + added to your own firewalls on both router and machines.

If your worried about virus/malware i would recommend securing your router first as thats basically the gateway to your machine and network and only download the warframe launcher/updates from warframe.com or steam only.

that would only work if there would be a zero-day exploit available for exactly the current version of warframe. considering how long it takes to actually find a exploite in any given software and the amount of updates and hotfixes in warframe, this is really, really unlikely.
so if your antivirus is claiming maleware in the executables of the game it's more likely a false-positive. an other possibility would be that your whole system is contaminated and the "infection" stem from an other source (usb-stick, downloaded crap, infection via a browser by visiting a site that was rigged with maleware, etc...).
you can test the exe files of warframe by sending them to "www.virustotal.com" and let them scanned by all available av-scanner there.

I highly doubt cybercriminals would target warframe players unless they wanted to run scrypt based cryptocurrency miners using your dank AF GPUs. I also doubt you could send a payload through an exploit in warframe.

I would recommend Hitman Pro and malwarebytes's anti-rootkit as well as a quick sift through your processes with process explorer.

I'm not getting any reports from my AV, no. I just thought about it and was wondering. I know how most of this stuff works, was just curious if you could get malware through warframe :P

Could you? Probably; absolute 100% security is impossible in the computing world. Is it likely? In this case, not really.

sure, there is no such thing as an secure computer (not even one that is not connected to any network, and is running in a secured room). all one can do is being carefull and using common sense - and other safety measures, depending on the operation. sadly thoug, common sense is the thing most lacking in the world, but at least that helps me earing my daily bread ^.^

So cynical, yet so true...

No you can't because the communication between a game and a server consists of only specific instructions, the game cannot execute or even interpret any instructions if it's not coded to do so.
No idea but on a few occasions my Firewall has poped up with a block warning of a remote ISP (im assuming the host) attempting to do things it deems 'naughty' when I join said host, its very rare though (happened a total of 4 times in the last year and a half) and Warframe has all the permissions it needs to function so its not Warframe asking for new permissions.

So while it might not be able to transfer a virus, the fact the host PC gets your ISP to work with it could allow other things to gain access to your ISP and attempt to get in useing that info.

Just have a Firewall that can warn you and block the attempt, the only way you can be safe for the most part.

Chace for that is like Lotto.
Client PC Firewall -> Client Router Firewall -> Warframe Login Server -> Host Router Firewall -> Host PC Firewall

Something on Client or Host pc would have to run in the background that attaches to the Warframe exe. That would have to use any way to go thru the Ports Warframe uses unnoticed.
Warframe checks itself for maipulated software in the updater and there is Steam too.

You should fear the Websites you are surfing on more, than this peer to peer connection.
