Glaxion is not that bad. It's lacking in damage, but it makes up for it in status, plus it leaves very pretty ice statues everywhere. It's very easy to go with Glaxion above 100% status, which means stuff like exploding corpses, viral and gas are perfectly viable.

I, however, vote Amprex just because it's fun to see entire rooms of enemies fall at once.

Beam weapons are bad for status because they proc it only once a second.

Unless the mechanic is somehow bugged (think I may have heard somebody say it is), beam weapons are easily able to proc way more than one status proc per second because they are actually capable of going over 100% chance/sec. Add a decent fire rate mod to a high-status beam weapon and you may see the number jump to 400% or so (not having used beam weapons for a while I don't have as much experience with this, however).
