Steam overlay?

Is there a way to get the overlay in game? Half my friends don't play it, but I always talk to them while playing games, so I kind of need the overlay if I'm going to play this?

You can go into the Steam directory and set steam.exe in compatibility mode to whatever OS and the overlay and play-time counter will work. However if UAC is enabled there will be a nag everytime you start Steam and Valve does not recommend starting Steam in comp. mode either. Also, for some reason if I start the game from Steam it disables windows aero and displays massive screen-tearing, which does not happen when starting the playonline .exe manually. Not sure how this game could be released on Steam when it obviously doesn't support it properly.

That's something I guess. How's the PlayOnline overlay on this game assuming that there's one?
