How to start co-op game from character creation screen
I expect this has been asked before but am having trouble finding another thread on it.

A friend and I are going to begin a co-op mode playthrough tonight. I certainly want him to be able to create his character as he'd like it, so I want to bring him into the game from the character creation screen, which I read is possible. I also read instructions on how to invite a friend once you're in-game, so I've looked for the diamond icon in the character creation screen, but can't seem to find it.

And actually, I did just find a PDF of the game manual that implies if I click "New Game" followed by "Multiplayer" from the main menu, my friend can then just join the game by clicking the "Join" button on the main menu then finding my game in the list. So I assume I could start the game, then sit on the character creation screen until he finds my game and joins it. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I've played through the first act and am familiar with the mechanics and am starting to get a sense of character building, but my friend has not played the game at all. While I suppose I can talk him through the process, it would be a lot simpler if he can view the options and their effects for himself while I give him some guidance.

Thank you for the help!

Yes that is how it works. If both are steam copies, he can just join the game via your profile. If not, he can join directly via the IP address or by using the server ID. (I dont think you can get the ID from the char creation though). Also im not sure if GOG versions show up in the list at all.

Thank you both for verifying! It was very easy to get our game started.

You can bring up the Steam overlay to sent an invite from the character creation, as well (for anyone else finding this in a search).
shift+tab followed by right clicking your friend won't work for this.
You need to press ESC or start, depending on what you're using and either press "invite players" or use the option "connection menu" just under "load".
You'll see a bunch of different coloured diamonds for different permissions, and at the bottom, "Players" with a diamond symbol.
