Is loot completely random?
On my co-op campaign, I'm a wayfarer with a lvl 4 bow... I'm now lvl 7. Haven't had a single bow drop so far, I even had to buy the lvl 4 one.

Am I just incredibly unlucky? It's making our playthrough kind of hard now

Random. So random, that the next chest you find do this:

1) Stand in front of chest
2) Press F5 to quicksave
3) Open chest
4) Got a bow = No Then Press F9 and goto step 3)
5) Got a bow = yes Then you're done!

You can do the same thing with bosses. When you are 1 hit from finishing them off, hit F5. If you don't like the loot they drop, F9 and repeat until you get what you need.

WARNING: It can be addictive :)

damnit lol

Fun thing, we were turning a quest that gave a chest reward that gave 2 items... we reloaded at least 20 times, no bows...

Yeah at lower levels it is sort of hard to get useful loot and generally investing in vendors is needed. I had to keep cheesing till got something close to good. Remember bows aren't all that increases damage, stat boosts in neceassry skill helps a lot.

Lucky find is something you shold make sure one character has decent skill points in (preferably by gear) and he shold be the one to open chests and containers. The rogue is a perfect fit for this.

Pro tip: Don't worry about loot drops too much unless its from a boss. Vendors outside of cyseal generally ahve more interesting stuffs and its worth cheesing those. Thayleon, Evelyn and sailor on the boat at the harbour generally have a few interesting stuff. Make sure you grab maps from the artist at thet own center as those indicate hidden chests that are worth cheesing for the good stuff.

Keep in mind, even though there are RNGs in place, you will be holding on to you gears for a while before you get a worthwhile upgrade. Make sure you boost your armor via crafting. havinga character excel in crafting at lev 5 ensures a significant boost to armor. Smithing will net you more DP boost on your weapons.

Lucky Find has no effect on chests. It only is considered when opening crates and barrels and the like.

Well in that case you will just have to cheese it the old fasion way. Found plenty of awesome stuff in random containers though so its lucky find is definitely worth investing via gears.

OMG, just craft it, dude.

If you want to run a no cheese game, just recruit someone and make them a craft mule for your party until you find better gear. Cheesing saves is tedious and detracts from the fun of the game (IMO.).

I get lots of lucky finds on chests... still useless though. What I do is figure out if a chest can possibly drop a legendary then I reload until I get an upgrade. Always quicksave on boss types too, every single one should give you a legendary upgrade of some kind.

My opinion is a crappy random loot system works for Diablo but not for a finite game with an end. That's why Baldur's Gate had specific loot, you can actually balance a game a little better that way. Larian hates the loot system so they agree.

about that... is it me or getting the crafting materials kind of hard? Haven't found branches (or logs for that matter) and much sinew either...
The.Spaz. Jan 22, 2015 @ 10:44pm
You can create sinew from hairs +knife. Certain items can be bought from vendors but laregely you should find around areas and on enemies and belongings. Make sure you use Alt key after a battle to highlight all collectibles in the area. Its very easy to miss stuff with the naked eye if its just on the ground as opposed to a body.

The rarer stuff is random and often enough elementals and vendors will carry a few. The basic stuff you will find are herbs and stuff to create potions and other stuff you for armors. I think you can combine sinews to create a strong sinew although it doesn't quite work for bows. maybe for crossbows??

Two sinews = bowstring. Two strong sinews = bowstring.
