Struggling in the first few levels...
I'll try to keep this brief. I have a level 3 Knight and Ranger and am just getting destroyed by everything. I've done the demo dungeon at the beginning, gone as far as I can in the murder quest (pressing North out of town I run across like 8 level 6's and just get destroyed. I've also tried my luck with the Orges on the beach to the west to no avail. Are there major quests in the town I'm missing? I've been reading guides about the first few levels and they say to stay in town until level 3 but obviously I'm still getting wrecked at my current level. Does anyone have any tips or knowledge to impart on me? Perhaps a link? Thanks in advance!

out the west gate is where you're supposed to go next, not out the north. For an open area style game, it's not very well done. the original Divine Divinity was much better.

Check out the graveyard in town. There's an oppurtunity for low level experience there.

I'm having a lot of trouble, too. I'm hating this game so much so far. How the ♥♥♥♥ did it get such high reviews? You guys made me waste $40 :( Only reason I'm still playing is because I spent $40 on it

And what west gate? I don't see anything besides these orks up north who are wrecking my ♥♥♥♥.

There's a West gate (to the orc beach), a Northwest gate (that's where you should go first), and a North gate (harder undead). The west gate is down in the harbor area, the Northwest gate is near the morgue & graveyard in the upper city.

The only path I see is the one towards the orcs....

try to pick up more party members first. The mage in the libary something with J is ver helpful. I hated it as well for the first 5 or 6 hours. But it gets really good as soon the slow start is over!

You are talking about the gate by the docks, leading to the beach. The gate you want to be at is the only one that's already open and the only one where no one asks you "are you sure you want to leave? You look undepowered"

Go to where the undertakers house is ( south of the graveyard), and head west. This is in the town proper, the upper section, not the docks

That's the docks. Go up into the city, then turn left. The west exit has no gate. It's the only way out of town that does not have a closed door in front of you.

Look at your map. Part of it is revealed, and part is black. Follow the edge of the black areas and you will find it.

East is offering many XP through exploration and starting few quests and avoiding combats. That can be useful if you feel you need more xp during the first parts of the game.

Add me, I'll jump into your game and show you around. That goes for anyone.

This game has a steep learning curve. The western gate from town will have you meet level 3 mobs and level 4 the futher out you go . I cannot emphasise the importance of also completing quests in the town and gearing up as you go along. This game is extremely rewarding for this kind of play. You cannot take on higher levels from the get go!

^ lol . I am so glad I "get" this game and people like you dont. Its rated highly because simply put its not for gamers who want to rush to areas without being patient. Me and a friend have been co oping this game for the past week and a half and level 8 , we have taken approx 20 hours to clear cyseal, and have about 8000 gold or more and some great legendary items power ful spells etc. Trust me -- if you are patient, and make regular saves, the game will reward you ( id also reccommend quitting if you hate the game . cos you wont get any enjoyment if you havent got any so far )

I would disagree with that.. to the east is level 6 church fire mobs and the villa area which hosts a ton of traps and lev 7 skeleton bosses!.. There are some small fights to the east involving wolves. However North west gate or west from the town and north west is where the starting XP is found. Lev3/4/5 mobs are found here. I also agree to get the followers MADORA from the inn, and JAHAN from the Library. Also the RANGER - do not know her name, from the cage outside the legionnaire hq, there is also a scoundrel I found in the tunnels beneath the city.

I hope this helps

I think Dorok is refering to everything east before the skelteon boss. You can get a significant amount of exploration xp without doing any fights. It makes it easier to hit level 4 before you head out of town to the west if you don't want to milk every single little side quest in town.
