Someone Explain Sneaking To Me Please.
Ok so I can't quite get a handle on what sneaking actually is good for other than displaying a NPC's or enemy's field of view and pickpocketing.

1) What is the good of "Leveling" your sneaking skill past 1? I've upped it to 2, and noticed nothing changing. I assumed the cones of sight would get smaller or something.

2) Will you always get caught when you enter someone's field of view? Seems that way to me.

3) What about combat? Currently I have to get out of an enemies cone of sight and then enter stealth, but if they turn to attack another party member or relocate and sweep over me my cover is blown. If I attempt to attack an enemy while sneaking mid combat it says "sneak failed" when I attack.

I hope you guys don't tell me the only thing leveling my sneaking skills will do is make sneak attacks more likely (even though it always says failed for me). I really hope those cones aren't a 100% "you're caught" thing. If so I think it needs changed. Enemies with poor preception should sweep right over me without uncloaking me if my sneak is high.

I do not understand how sneaking and backstabs work either. For example what is the difference between backstabing (Backstabber trait) and the Guerilla trait (is it backstabbing with weapons other than daggers)? Sneaking always seem to fail when you use it with a spell or special attack. What is the point of improving the skill?

Glad to see I'm not the only one with some questions here. I can partially answer the Backstabber question though. You can backstab for extra damage anytime in combat as long as you position yourself behind the enemy (the exact position is very finicky though) and I can only asssume Guerilla works anytime you perform a sucessful attack from sneaking (although I've never seen it work).

I'm hoping some sagely soul will come hither and save us from our mortal ignorance. LOL

For leveling sneaking their area of vision, the area in colour, becomes much more narrow, and when you pass that field for a short period of time (at a reasonable distance) you have an increasingly large amount of time to pass through it in a sort of grace period before they notice you. So levle 1 sneaking, you hit cone of vision trying to pass by quickly, you get caught, level it to 5, and you should be able to pass through safely if it didn't take long. Stealth in combat works fine if you're using smoke effects and environmental blocking to drop line of sight, still viable in combat dependant on how you play. Guerilla seems to only work for standard attacks, so pop out behind them with a decent weapon and you do massive damage, small action point cost for a regular attack so you can always use special skills after that.

It would be much more fun if you could play as a guerilla wizard who would throw out-of-nowhere fireballs.

OP sneaking "à la" Morrowind get quickly totally boring, and doesn't feel like sneaking anymore. Could be fun to throw a cataclysm on enemies without let them a chance to notice and react, but after one or two tries it would be just tedious OP.

So I need to un-bushify myself behind the enemy before I attack to get Guerilla to work properly? I've attacked from bush and got nothing so far. And thank you for the answers.

make sure you're close enough to immediately attack, sometimes you're a bit far out and your character unstealths to take a step forward and attack, I've had that a few times.

Well by the sound of it the other guy says you need to unstealth before you attack to get the guerilla to work right. So which is it? Can I get the sneak attack to work if Im' close enough to attack without moving while in sneak mode, or do I need to sneak up and exit sneaking before I attack to get guerilla's bonus damage?

Of course not. Attacking while in non-sneak mode isn't going to work with "attack while sneaking" bonuses.

I think the problem was that the last patch broke Guerrilla and it may not be fixed in this patch yet.

Ah, I didn't know Guerilla was broken. That's a bummer. I watched a developer update video that said they plan to have this game released on June 20th...as in June 2014? That is hard to believe with all the bugs and non-functional mechanics I've seemed to run across while playing.

The sneak bush is lame. Less visibility for your character would have been cooler. I mean, really, a bush? lol

Less visibility? It's not clear what you mean, that your character is less visible or that his view is shorten? The current choice is probably aimed for multiplayer so the other player see clearly what happen.

like a rogue when he/she goes stealth in WoW, for example. ^^

They said the bush was a placeholder, the covering on the characters should change dependant on where you are in the final release, I think they mentioned it in a video or comment somewhere. It's not like a tree disguise wasn't used in wow, if you want that game as an example, go roll a dk.

Mpf some players don't play Wow, yeah that exists, there isn't only 1 million or 2 million players in the world (I don't know wow numbers it's just a random guess).
