Maybe it's typical sale tactics? They raise the initial price, let you offer less (the actual price) and then feel good about your purchase?

I was wondering if barter was broken as well. What do you have to do to use the skill anyways? I tried offering a couple coins less for a purchase and the merchant became angry and raised her prices.

napoBapka, hover the mouse over the merchant's picture in the trade window and it will say how much they like you. If it is a negative number, the prices go up...

With Barter at level 2 you should be able to get a skill book listed for 151 gold for about 126 gold. At level 3, you can get one for 117 gold, but an offer of 116 is insulting. If a merchant's opinion of you is low, then prices go up.

A couple people have had problems with matching or even exceeding the listed price (for certain items, certain types of items or with specific vendors) where the offer would still be rejected as insulting. That is a bug, and not part of bartering.

Reading the comments, barter and loot seem broken, or at least very unbalances. Since looting and buying/selling is the one of the really fun things in a RPG (at least for me), I really hope they will fix that.

Nobody likes a "stingy" RPG!

The next update will contain quite a few fixes to the loot system. I'm not going to claim it'll be balanced as should be already, but it'll be a lot better.
