plate armor and armor scraps.
sorry guys, I have looked through all the forums and online and youtube. I cant find anywhere on how to make metal scraps so I can make steel armor for my knight and fighter. As you could imagine, this is very frustrating...lol. If you know how this particular system works, please be willing to explain. thank you in advance.

From the vanilla game... you cannot make plate or chain chestpieces, same as making pieces of clock, leather, chain or plate scraps. Only boots and weapons (not blunt) are to my knowledge. There should be a decent number of crafting mods to diversify how much, and what you can create, It is entirely up to you whether you install them or not. I'm pretty sure the Nexus has a page for divinity.

http://divinity.wikia.com/wiki/Crafting_(Divinity:_Original_Sin) is a page that has most, if not all of DD:OS crafting + blacksmithing recipes.

I dont think you can craft metal scraps yourself. However various traders in Cyseal (and towns in higher-level zones) usually will sell them

Metal scraps are used to enhance armor, leather armor if not mistaken, if your blacksmithing is high enough.

There may be mods to allow it.

I love how the base game lets me toss a sword or axe into the forge to turn it back into an ingot, but you cannot do the same with daggers, spears, etc (and you cannot craft scythes or hammers). Non-metal items are harder to create or boost because of rare materials and the inability to reforge them (bows, clubs, all armor, etc).

TL;DR: I wish the game had the ability to disassemble and redesign items frequently the way you can with swords & axes. Maybe a mod does it?

yah, the game itself with the story line and the intricate way that the graphics interlace with the environment and the npc's level of perplexity is fantastic! the characters are all really put together well. How could divinity mis the mark on proper crafting by so far! wow, i give the game a solide 7+...it would have been a solide 9.5 if the crafting was proper.

Yea. Don't get me wrong... Even with its problems, the Crafting still isn't terrible and I love the results. I consistently produce better weapons than nearly anything I can find, and the boosts I can apply to armor, shields and weapons are very potent (rubies and nails are amazing!). But bows, clubs and daggers really don't get the same treatment as axes and swords (in terms of material availability and reuse), and that's a terrible shame.

are you having the same issue with rubies? they are just not there?
Wazat1 Jul 27, 2015 @ 8:14am
I've found several rubies (around 6 or 7+). They are rare in the early game, but show up in shops and chests with greater frequency as you go. Unfortunately shops and loot in this game are such a cap shoot, you can never depend on fairness.

lol, tell me about it.
