What kind of games do you enjoy? If you enjoy fast-paced hack and slashes with little story, you should get Diablo 3. If you like tactical or turn-based RPG's with lots of reading, then Divinity: Original Sin sounds more like your thing.

The games are pretty much NOTHING alike at all. The only thing they have in common is the isometric perspective.

alright, that I did not know, I played Diablo 3 on console, but I preferred to get in on pc. I really enjoy both styles of gmeplay, but really am looking for a game that will last a while and give me lots of play time

Playtime for D:OS is 50 to 100+ hours, depending on difficulty and playstyle. Replayability is good, with different ways to solve most quests and different party builds. The Enhanced Edition to be released later this year (November-ish) will be free to everyone who owns the original, and include enough additions and changes to further add to replayability (see the stickied announcement topic).

That's actually really interesting. D:OS is looking a bit better now. Way more worth the money. I will do a bit more research into both but as of now I'm probably going to get D:OS

D:OS has a bit of a steep learning curve as there is little to no handholding. If you get frustrated easily, as much as I love this game, I'd have to recommend you get D3 just for ease of access.

And to be honest, even though D3 is ♥♥♥♥, I still played it substantially more than D:OS. Grinding paragon levels and set pieces is pretty time consuming. Time consuming, not necessarily/always fun.

Of course if you're looking for a new challenge, this game might tickle you. This was my first real introduction to cRPGs and I haven't played a game I found equally as engaging before/after. Though the engagement is vested in a certain level of tedium. I enjoyed it though.

One thing I noticed between the two that wasn't mentioned is that D3 has unique spells for every class. In D:OS it appears that a "shadowblade" is just given the spells of a rogue and a sorcerer and there is nothing unique there, just a different blend of spells. Might appeal to some but I like the uniqueness in D3, but I like the gameplay in D:OS. I just feel D3 I'd replay a lot more because each class has thier own spells, in D:OS I don't feel like the class I picked.

Imho Diablo is a far better experience on Consoles. I own it for both Console and PC. That being said if you played Diablo on console that is the to me the definitive experience, not sure why. I beat the game once on PC, never did any multiplayer, just forgot about it. Years later got the UEE on Xbox one and played it for months.

I guess what I am saying is if you have Diablo on console, then the get Divinity on PC (as this is a game that I do not think will play well on Console which it is coming to with the Enhanced Edition).

Both are fun games, D3 gets you a little more replayability though since it's multiplayer is a gear grind mayhem, and Divinity is really just playing the same story over and over with different playstyles.

However, Divinity IS getting that Enhanced edition soon, and that will add full Voice Overs for the game and change a lot of the story AND the ending (if you own Divinity you get it for free, but they said it will be a different game in your steam library so you can play which one you prefer) So if beat Divinity now, you get the option of a new story later. Also take into account the player created content, which in my opinion is no longer a selling point of a game as with the advent of easy to upload and share Steam Workshop 90% of the content uploaded is just complete and utter trash. Gone are the days where in NWN for example, people spent months doing massive custom scenarios, and the people who created junk were quickly weeded out because the websites that hosted the content actually had some sort of filter in place.

Oh boy! Impossible to choose between them so just get them both.
I have over 3,000 hrs on D3 (P812) and am still playing daily. Patch 2.3 is in PTR and coming in the next couple of months so it's a great time to pick up D3 and get settled into it.
As far as D:OS is concerned, i just finished my first playthrough yesterday and it is something that i will remember for a very long time. 106 hrs to finish and will be replaying again very soon, also looking forward to the enhanced edition (another reason to pick this up as i believe you will then get the EE for free).
They are very different games and impossible to compare....D3 = grind and prey to the RNG gods for nice loot to drop. D:OS is a memorable storyline and turn based combat (the co-op looks great but i haven't tested it myself yet).
Hope you can get them both and if you have 1% of the joy they have given me you will be very happy i'm sure :)

I know I far prefer D:OS to D3; if you like the general gameplay style of Diablo but are also concerned about story/setting/character quality then you might want to look at something like Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, or if you don't mind something a bit older, the earlier Divinity games or the Torchlight series.

Otherwise, if you're more into the RPG side of things than the action side of things, D:OS is the way to go between the two, while D3 is essentially an action game with RPG trappings if you're more interested in the action aspect.

Go for path of exile. Friday act4 gets released and it blew Diablo3 straight away even before that. Its also free to play on steam and is not p2w.

Divinity: Original sin is great nonetheless and you should get it anyway ;)

Those "classes" in the beginning were just initial gear/spell combination examples for lack of a better term, just to show you possible combinations that would work well and the initial gear you get, it's a classless game, can build any way you want. In that sense how unique a character is, is completely up to you, this just means you lack imagination and prefer having clearly defined roles handed to you, which is not the type of RPG DoS is.

I think D:OS is pretty simple to learn, having come from playing Drakensang (not the online game) games. When I first played Drakensang: The Dark Eye - holy crap there was a lot of chatacter skill customization....it took a good bit of effort to get it all figured out. D:OS is kind of a walk in the park when compared to Drakensang.

I wouldn't recommend Diablo 3 unless you're a big fan of hack'n'slash RPGs or are a random drop w-h-o-r-e who loves to try and collect rare items in a game that are randomly dropped.

Lol I lack imagination because I like the effects and animations of the unique spells?
I lack imagination because I can use most of every spell that interests me in the first playthrough? That makes no sense.

I don't prefer to have clearly defines roles handed to me, you don't know me and therefore can't say much about me, especially personal opinions I've never stated in a place where you can see. So don't talk for me, because it is evident you have no clue who I am or what I like.

Of course a D:OS character is unique, because you pick all the spells, DUH. But when your running around with a friend and your trying to both be "Unique" and your using the same spells, its kind of not so unique of you anymore.

Not the point I was making nor the one you made aside from whatever intentions you had, I judged my response based on what you wrote and your response seems to validate it, I said imagination to be polite, I think you're just an idiot.
