You could try the Larian forums. I think someone posted a "manual" there that they wrote up. Aside from that, these old school CRPG's are just like that, there is very little direct information outside the basic mechanics to play the game so you need to figure a lot of things out.

I don't know if it's documented anywhere, but this is definitely how the design works.
This is not true in the least. "Old school" RPG's had manuels that explained such things.
