Cynthia, the potion vendor in Cyseal market should have air and water spells for sale. However, there is a chance that her inventory may not be generating those spells on your playthrough. I agree that can be annoying. I think the only options for dealing with that are to wait in-game for several hours, or to gain a level (which admittedly may be tricky without a healer.)

There is a mage in town, Jahan, who can join your party, and he has the healing spell to start out with.

Is that the only healing spell in the game? The big cross icon that heals at the start of each turn for three turns? It doesnt heal much if thats the one you are talking about.

Madora also has a healing spell (Cure Wounds IIRC). It's a man at arms skill that heals a lot. Unforunately, you need to be fairly close to the person you want to heal to use it and it has a very long cooldown. It's efffectively one use per battle. There are more healing spells under the hydro school later in the game. You could also use leech, although it has been nerfed so I don't know how well that works anymore.

You can also use food or potions to heal in battle or rest after battle to heal. Many vendors and townspeople have healing potions. You can also craft them by putting a penny bun mushroom into an empty potion bottle.

I never had any problems just using the Minor Heal spell that Jahan has or healing potions. If you need to heal often for large amounts during combat, you may want to (1) gain levels before trying the fight or (2) try different tactics.

Sound advice feralgal

also, if you put two minor healing pots together, you get a significantly better healing pot which is sufficient for bringing characters back from the edge of death in the early game.

The Man-at-Arms ability Cure Wounds is a must have bacon saver IMO if anyone else in your party apart from Madora has the requisite ability. There are two additional water school heal spells. The next one up from the basic one you know about that Jahan has you can get from Cynthea in Cyseal market. It heals about 500HP over two turns. Jahan can easily cast both in one turn in battle. The third one IIRC does a single big heal, but I saw it once before I was high enough level to buy use it and didn't by it stupidly.

i have found that as you gain in levels, the vendors inventory changes to reflect that... Cynthea has had progressively higher level spells everytime i come back to town, for example.

also, as you wander about town talking to the locals, make sure to check everyone's sale inventory...you might be surprised at what a seemingly random person might have to trade.

There are only 3 Hydrosophist healing spells in the game. Shields are also very useful and there's one for each elemental school. The earliest shield spell is at level 7 for Geomancer.

A related tip:
If you want to, you can save before talking to a vendor when you level up. A vendor's inventory is random (within the type of stuff they sell) but once you talk to them, their inventory is set for that level. If you really want something, you save and reload a few times to see if the stock is better. Also, if you have crafting, Victoria sometimes sells blank spell books. If you can find a scroll with the spell you want, you can craft a book with it.
