i cant find the smelly coat

I cant find the coat.I might of stole it earlier in the game and sold it but i cant find it.Is there anything else that jake can smell so i can finish the quest.what does it look like. they should not let you sell quest items I had no idea.

It simply says "smelly coat" in the description. I've been holding on to it forever. That and the smelly scarf. Never needed them though. I don't remember Jake ever asking me for them.

Only needed if you have the pet pal talent.OP mixed up the dog with councillor Jake(the murder victim)

You have to access the conversation option(with the dog running around jakes grave) "Will you be able to smell out Jake's murderer?" or something along that line and you will be given serveral options depending on which quest item(s) you have at that time.It won't take them from you,just gives you a reply as to whether any of them has jake's smell on it.
