Did you read a book found in a cave that gave +1 to Int, -1 to Perception?

I believe the first one you find is in Hiberheim.

Depends on the character - it's actually a reasonable tradeoff for a dedicated caster.

It says it on the tooltip when you mouse over it, before you read it.

+1, you're the only one to blame here.

I was able to buy one of these for ~30 Gold from one of the Civilians near the cheese stand ~ level 10.

Boost: X , are permanent bonuses acquired one way or another.
If you play in hardmode you get among other things -25% Vitality and that will appear as Boost: -25%. If you use items that give a permanent bonus, like eating ishmashell shell raw you get Boost: +10% Water resistance, and other books/items do so in a similar way.

Except for example the +1 constitution potion. When I found it I thought, cool a perma buff to my stats. After I drank it I found out that it actually has a duration, which is not mentioned anywhere on the tooltip. I personally haven't found this book yet (thanks for the heads up), but If I did, I would have just assumed it works temporarily just like the potion, and read it anyway because I like to read everything.

Books are not potions, Reading a book and thoroughly understanding its contents can change your view on things (thus +1 int -1 perception)
