Are you freaking kidding me?
What's the point of all this gold in troll king cave If I can't take it?
Are my characters too daft to loot a horde of gold?

Selective realism strikes again!

have you seen a horde of gold in boreas' treasury?

Given the way fey creatures, treasures, and magic work - and the troll king is definitely following that motif in this scenario - I suspect that those piles of gold would turn back into useless stone once removed from the cave (and perhaps be out-and-out cursed as well).

Yeah, I was greatly saddened by that as well, despite having more money than I knew what to do with already

I was disappointed Larian didn't put 1 single lootable coin on the top of each pile as the utlimate troll move.

Risen 1 did it. The non-inquisition group (can't remember their name, but that small village in the woods)...the leader of the group had a massive gold pile guarded by an Ogre and a couple other dudes. There were a few lootable piles of gold on the mound, as well as some other stuff. Underwhelming regardless.

LOL they did something similar to this. There were about 2 single coin pickups on a table closeby.

You have to have some suspension of disbelief when playing fantasy games I agree, but the world still needs work in logical ways within that suspension of disbelief.
