Can someone give me some tips vs the orcs?
I just hit level 5 and have finished the Lighthouse portion of the quest. It seems the only two options here are the forest with level 6 enemies or the beaches with level 6 orcs. I finished off the first batch near the ammunition crates without much hassle, but trying to get past Grulbarg is just frustrating. His first attack puts at least two of my people in Fear and the rangers near him knock down my fighter and healer - rendering them useless for the remainder of the fight.

Is there something I'm missing here? All the battles have been a bit difficult (just started the game), but since I learned I can use invisibility to set up explosive barrels and crates to aid in the battle, they have gotten considerably easier. Still, this one battle is proving to be really annoying as I've lost countless times.

So, any tips for this portion of the game is greatly appreciated. I should also note I haven't been back to the vendors in town because their gear was lackluster at best and extremely overpriced.

To level up you don't need to fight enemies. You can simply solve quests. Look in your journal and complete those you have left unfinished.
Also, explore more. There are many more enemies than just those.
And finally, some times it's ok to fight enemies that outlevel you slightly.

I've been trying to clean up the quests, but it seems I need to go back and do some more investigating. I need about 24,000 exp to the next level, so I don't believe my quests will grab me that much exp, though I could be wrong.

Also, I've had no problem fighting enemies over my level. It's just how this group of Orcs act makes me think I'm either not supposed to be here yet, or there is some gear vendor out there that I missed. Jahan is still using the robes he came with and I've only found some Plate armor for the barbarian girl.

Well it depends on your setup do you have a party of 4 ? You should have left oggies brother alive you would get a perk immunity to fear :) there is a mine field not far away by the river, you could try to lure them over there and setup some oil barrels or lure them into the water and hit water with lightning, smoke their ass try to get some smoke between you and enemies and separate them. Blind is a usefull witchcrafting spell basicly takes a boss out of the fight if he doesnt resist it. Summon spider/elementals helps a lot. You could also go back to town and solve some of the quests there. like the main quest with evelyn, talking head in circus, the charmed orc, lighthouse quest and the lost embasador , fargo dog in the wood, victoria orc in library and more. Break into the houses steal all the paintings and sell em, let one character talk to the npc so npc turns away from the item you wanna steal. in some places where you know there is a huge chance of getting legendary item, try to reload few times to get some godly weapon or chest for your characters :) for example ghost by the name snorri has a good chance of dropping legendary.

Initiate the combat instead of waiting till they see you, use ummons, electrify the water, use Rain to make them more vulnerable to water attacks, relocate tough opponents with teleport them through teleport, charm one of them and make use of barrels if necessary.
If everything fails just sneak past them with one char and activate the Waypoint inside the cave.

Any crowd control strategies work well on that group. Assuming you're approaching from the mined passage you'll see a pretty large puddle between you and the orcs. I triggered the fight with my henchmen rogue while the rest of the group lagged behind a bit. I used the pyramid to teleport the rogue back to the group and had Jahan extend the puddle with the rain spell to cover more ground. Then my main, a witch/pyro summoned a fire elemental near the close edge of the puddle. Grulbarg wasted his fear spell on the elemental, unnsuccessfully.

The melee orcs rushed the summon and ended up in the puddle which Jahan electrified on his next turn stunning them all including Grulbarg. Then I moved in with a fireball, a fortified, wildfired stick (clobbering time) and shield cleric and blind cast at every opportunity to shut down ranged fighters.

I was able to get my rogue behind the shaman, either by tossing a pyramid and teleporting to it or using cloak and dagger, I don't remember...in any case she was able to backstab it for a few turns while the rest of the party concentrated on the other orcs.

Grulbarg seemed vulnerable to stun, freeze, and blind. So he was pretty easy to keep down. At some point when he was on fire from a fireball and stunned via static cloud I teleported an ooze barrel on top of him with Jahan..

This was on hard, and I barely took a scratch....

So I'd reccomend having blind, a summon, blitz bolt and rain at the very least.

Thanks for the tip. I've been completely ignoring all of my scrolls and special arrows in my inventory until now. I also tossed an Earth Elemental out to take some of the aggro away from my party. I'm running two mages, an archer, and a barbarian and I think this time I might win.

Also, I have no idea how to spot if a certain character or chest has a chance to drop a legendary and I don't particularly like save scumming rewards. Though at this point it could be pretty useful.

I got a legendary gold ring from the fight. Looks like I just needed to refine my tactics. Thanks a lot for all the tips.

Glad to hear you beat the encounter. For me, challenging encounters that I have to reset a few times for are the best. They really give a sense of accomplishment when you finally do beat it.

There are a couple really powerful abilities that turn the tides of fights. Summoning cannon fodder you already discovered. Experiment with "teleportation" (low level air spell), "Rapture" & "Charming Touch" (marksman and scoundrel abilities), and "midnight oil" (low level earth spell) to control the ebb and flow of difficult battles.

For anyone else still having trouble with this fight, just remember that you had to walk through a minefield to get to the orcs. Since the orcs are mainly melee enemies, it isn't too hard to lure them around those mines - especially with summons.

nevermind the orcs...those are pretty easy...rain on them, then shock the pants off them...lol...its the cult dudes that suck...they silence you and then tear you up...lmfao...what a great game.

i killed him when i was level 4 :P
I knew the mines ofc, so I went up, aggro them, ran back and let them smack all the mines :P

That was my first tactic but I never seemd to get them to follow me, - I thought maybe they were too smart, guess not.

You can just place barrel with poison and barrel with oil on path of the orcs. If you shoot them with fireboll it will one-shot or leave at low-HP most of enemies. In my playthrough it turned elite orc to pile of ash before he can shoot me.

That's what I've been doing ever since I found out enemies cannot detect an invisible Rogue opening chests right next to them. I used to start that fight by teleporting the poison barrel in the middle of the orcs, but I found that out to be pretty ineffective.
