How do you deal with chests and locked doors?
So, I've finally been able to put a point of pick locks on a companion. I've yet to encounter a single chest or door this guy is able to pick open with this one point, so it's becoming apparent that I need to invest 15 character levels just to be able to get access. How do you guys deal with this? Attacking them just takes forever.

Most every chest/door has a key.

Get a good 2handed weap and swing away. Make sure you have repair hammer. You will need it.

There's also gear that gives a bonus to lockpicking, if you're lucky enough to find some. I wouldn't invest a full 5 points.

Oh, and later levels grant you more points, so you wouldn't have to invest 15 levels. That'd be insane.

Yeah it's true. Most locked stuff has a key or some alternative way. Lockpicking is only beneficial to get access much quicker and isn't really needed at all.

You can boost most skills by 2 through items, so instead of investing 15 points you would only have to spend 6. On the other hand lockpicking is a relatively useless skill, because you can just destroy the door or use the key for that door.

That takes an evening.. Are there any attacks that works better than fire for them? Some special break-objects quickly attack?

As a side-note:
the worst possible boss in Divinity would be a sentient and evil tresure-chest bent on hoarding the whole world inside it. It's just got endless amounts of hp.
POSSIBLE SPOILER-QUESTION: The end boss isn't by chance an evil tresure-chest, is it? Only yes or no answer please!

Lockpicking is especially pointless if you have a mage since they can destroy doors/chests with spells saving the wear and tear on your weapons. This is one of the mechanics that I think needs some work. Destroying chests should also come with a risk of destroying the items inside and lockpicking should be somewhat useful at least at the beginning of the game with just 1 point.

Depends on your level and the chest level, weapon damage etc.

Fire spells are useful (and spells in general, no weapon damage), the most time I spent was about 10 minutes burning down the abandoned shop door in cyseal.

By and large, chest contents are random and just some loot, if it's taking forever to open it's probably not worth it.

No.

As for the rest of the thread, unless it is one of the ones that has 54400 hp and can only be hurt by tenebrium weapons, it's generally not hard to just break them open. Like it has been stated, a 2h works wonders as long as you have blacksmithing/some piece of equipment with blacksmithing on it, and a repair hammer.

For the chests with 54400 hp and can only be damaged by tenebrium, a tenebrium crossbow works wonders (prior to last patch, not sure if they fixed it), because seem to be able to fire crossbows as fast as you can press the button. I suppose it would work with normal chests too. Just gotta have the dex to equip one.

You need less than 15 lvls to max out a skill, at higher level you get more than 1 points per lvl. At lvl 17 I got 3 points for a lvl.

those with 54400 hp are annoying
so I use cheatengine, add the number 54400, do 100 damage, do another search with 54300 and find the value, change it to 10, and smash it :P
