Black Ominous Gate Key, Where is it?

So scouring forums, steam posts etc, seems like I'm not only person but also since its been moved like 4 times between all the beta builds.

Where is it I've cleared entire top level, ran around EVERYWHERE with alt, the exploit to throw a pyramid around the gate no longer works, destroyed the women painting, I heard something about a pirate dropping it but I cleared to the bottom of the black cove just not to the end of the secret dungeon below the hatch. Is it down there? Because everything I read said otherwise.

It's in the second section below the hatch. You'll need to work through the lever puzzle and confront the leader of the pirates to get the key to that gate.

but I think the spider drop the key or is it the pirate skeleton boss ?

ooh ok so further down the hatch really doesn't help how they have so many changes to it, literally like changed that key location 5 times so, when you look it up it sincerenly makes you feel like your missing something

When I got it, I got it from the pirate boss.
