You also don't just do combat you actually have to talk to npc's explore the world, craft gear, work out secrets and traps.
It is a very different experience and if you expect a fast paced game you are out of luck. Though if you enjoy the exploration aspect of the Elderscroll games then this may be just the game for you.
What really sells this is the combat and funny writing. The story itself isn't very engaging but at least most of the side-quests are good for a laugh.
That's not true. There is plenty of exploration and it's totally possible for people to bypass entire areas and sidequests by not exploring completely. The difference here is you don't get the same dungeons and caves with copy-pasted tilesets with the same level-scaled enemies to pad out the game. That is not exploration, that is filler.
What you should be saying is if you thought the combat, writing and gameplay mechanics in Elder Scrolls was any good then stay away.
No. No its not. The storyline is weak, the loot system is terrible and you are not given very clear direction. However, the gameplay mechanics are strong, The co-op is pretty with two people but would be better with 4 (Mod for it) the dialoue is pretty great, and the graphics look pretty damn good. I don't think I would of bought it at $40 but I think $25-$30 is a fair price.
I think it is interesting how divided people are about how they handled directing the players. I prefer the vague sense of direction they provide, but it seems it is not enough for many people. Sure, I have been stuck and not sure what to do a few times. But it doesn't take much to figure out if you pay attention. Usually it is a matter of remembering some door I didn't open or checking my map and going to a location I didn't explore.
I don't get the complaints about the loot system at all though. No issues here.
