That's a very strange mod choice, Diablo 1 is a lot about random generation of dungeons and action combats (far to be as deep that those of D2). It's DoS seems a strange base for a remake.

Even though Diablo was a random generated world, that world always had the exact same buildings, trees, etc in it. Only the placement was random. Basically the modder is taking those things and putting them in a non-generated world which I think will still be very cool if he's successful and Blizzard doesn't act like a$$es about it.
As a modder myself I don't understand why people have to call their mod after a real trademarked game. You can get away with calling it by a different name and calling it a mod in the spirit of the original Diablo.

I haven't played enough D1 but with D2 your description of the random is a bit simple, not only configuration of dugeons could have many variations but also configuration of each part, and some was quite different for example with secrets at very different places.

But eventually D1 had a much simpler random.

Quick way to get a C&D letter, probably would be removed from the workshop as soon as it's put up, linking it on the official forums will not be allowed as soon as a wiff of copywrite infringement is smelt.

Just name it something like: Iblis, Shaitan, Kolski, Voland, etc..

Devilo would be fine, Diablo is Devil in Spanish.

The names I referenced also have the same meaning. Quick change of the name is all it needs, and don't reference similar mob names in the Mod.

A huge waste of time and human resources I say. Or the modders just want attention since diablo is about rng and pseudo-action combat aka nothing like dos. Remaking one with skyrim's creation kit would be much more faithful to the original.

Incoming Blizzard's greedy a*s strong-arming.

I commend the efforts of the modder, that would be quite a project. I won't call it a waste of time because that is an insult to someone's passion, but I will say: If you are passionate about modding, as some others have mentioned, you should absolutely do your own thing. Not only to avoid issues with Blizzard (f*ck that company, they ruined Warcraft AND Diablo already anyway), but to have something of your own to be proud of rather than a remake or copy of something else, which would feel a bit more shallow.

Either way, best of luck to the modders. =D

Blizzard owns all rights for Diablo. Character names, specific enemies, voice acting, and music is owned by them. Even specific items. The guy is not going to be able to publically release this without possibly getting a letter from them or a copyright claim / law suit.
I don't foresee it being too much of an issue because he is not selling his mod for money. But they might try and imply sales of D:OS granting a free modded copy of Diablo as being an issue, due to greed and reaching (as if people are still busting down doors to buy Diablo 1). I wouldn't put it past those corporate clowns.
