Vargo the Dog?
I ran into a little Pooch named Vargo out in the woods. After speaking to him (Animal Pal skill), he mentioned he needing a hero, and escorted me to a pack of wolves.

After the fight, he runs off to a nearby tree and then vanishes into thin air! If you are quick enough and click him before he vanishes, he wants to show you somthing, but again vanishes as soon as he reaches the tree?

There doesnt seem to be anything special about the tree or anything in the area, am I missing somthing? Or is the quest bugged? Tried reloading several times to no avail.

yep, same happend to me. qucik google search shows that really is it. no quest to be had.

That is what we get for buying rpg's on release, we get to be guinea pigs for the left over bugs.

Not everything is a quest. Vargo basically leads you to a trap and then escapes; possibly pressured by the wolves. It is simply an event to make world seem some-what alive.

i don't agree with your theory its a trap that Vargo is in on, because he kills the wolves as well.

The section just screams removed questline though.

Maybe one day we ll know the true reason for Vargo.

This is one of a handful of things that appears to be a left-over fragment of a quest that got cut from the final release.

Fairly certain there's a second dog further up the path with the same exact dialogue which also disappears. The dog does fight with you though, so I doubt it was originally intended to be a trap.

I'm not convinced its a trap, he helps you after all, and even has more dialogue where he wants to show you somthing after the fight (Animal Pal skill). I'm more inclined to agree with Uraoen, it seems like a broken/unfinished questline.

well, it's over a year later and the Enhanced Edition is out. same thing happens. you help the dog defeat the evil wolves and it leads you to a chest & some malachite. that's it.
even after speaking to the dog originally there is no quest dialogue added to the log book so i'm guessing it's not a quest at all, just a dog wanting some help.

It's not a trap and after killing the wolves, the "quest" is finished. I'll mask the rest for anyone who doesn't want spoilers or specifics.

In the EE:
If you have the Pet Pal skill, Vargo will tell that he and his friend have a stash of bones near their and he asks for your help in clearing the wolves. It's not a trap, because he tells you exactly what's going on. It's not really a quest. He's just asking for your assistance, and once rendered, he goes on his way.

I feel like this might've been a questline at some point, and it was removed to time constraints or something? I also was kind of hoping Vargo would become a companion...
I think it was a kinda mini quest for those that picked the animal pal perk, a hidden reward sorta
thing for having the perk.

That's a weird quest if it is a quest. Does Divinity 2 have these too?

Vargo's stash of bones are under a tree that the wolves were guarding Search the bones for loot.

Holy s--t some of yall really overthought this. It's just some living world flavor with a chest and an encounter for some XP. Not everything has to be deep Jesus Christ.

And yet you must have been actively searching the topic to have unearthed this '7 YEAR OLD' thread which you have needlessly necrobumped.
