Don't put Skyrim in the same breath as CoD apart from the way points Skyrim is one of the best RPGs ever i have played over 400 hours of Skyrim its a top rate game. I love D:OS to because its got no hand holding etc but the hand holding in Skyrim was not really that bad i still explored every corner of a dungeon befor i went to a way point.
I've never understood the hate for Skyrim by some people. With mods it's a remarkable game. One of the best games I have ever played and I've played quite a few games in my time.
"With mods" is the problem. Skyrim fully modded is great, one of the best games I've ever played... but most games shouldn't be judged by their mods, should they?
Its still awsome without btw if your base for if a game is good is anything to do with graphics i don't even want to engage with such morons.
What? Did you just say that "hyperbole" isn't a word?
What.
Doesn't matter to me. There is just no way they could have made skyrim over all those platforms in that timeframe as good a game as it is today with the mods. They know that. Thats the beauty of Elder Scrolls for me. You can tailor it to your playstyle and preference with mods. The Skyrim I play could look and play very different to the one you play. When I buy an Elder Scrolls I know I'm buying an evolving product.
Graphics mods are a tiny part of what mods change or add to Skyrim.
I know. I just have no clue why Minetor directed that statement at me. I don't think I've ever expressed my desire for more graphics in any game ever in this forum. Most of my mods for Skyrim aren't graphics mods at all...
I agree with most of what you wrote, but still disagree with the fact the game itself should be judged on the quality of its mods.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that's pretty much one of the most moronic posts to date. Hyperbole is a legitimate word with its own etymological root. It has nothing to do with any generational fad and it wasn't made up by young people. If you're going to go down the unconventional rebellious route, please stop being so wrong about elementary information. Oh wait 'unconventional' was a word made up by hippies in the 60's, my bad.
Because it messes with the lore (not as badly as Oblivion) and doesn't compare well to Morrowind (except graphically). I still think it's a good game. I have far more difficulty in Skyrim's combat (unmodded) than I do Divinity: Original Sin's.
But IMO it's a much better open world than D:OS. The dialog is probably not as good, though. (I haven't played Skyrim in a while so I don't really remember, only that Skyrim's is generic.) And if you want a linear story, D:OS does that much better IMO. (But who would ever play a TES game for the main quest or its story?????)
I think TES lore is much better and deeper than D:OS lore but that's mostly because of Daggerfall and Morrowind. The later TES games didn't add much. (They did leave the earlier books in though IIRC.) Maybe I'm missing a lot of the Divinity lore. Is there a good in-game source for that in D:OS?
I agree with you, Martin.
Yup.
One of the primary reasons I'm so ecstatic with this new crowdfunding development phenomena is because we can finally get back to games that really have truely deep roleplaying potential where once again exploration is rewarding, especially when one isn't led around by the nose. I am so loving this cRPG renaisance.
I'm still not over it but I think it's pretty clear that TES series will be very ARPG oriented now. (Just like Fallout is now.) I thought Skyrim was better in that regard than Oblivion, though, so I still have a *tiny* glimmer of hope for TES. Not much, though.
I have hope for crowdfunding. So far, nothing really good has emerged IMO but at least D:OS has some of the elements of older RPGs and it has added some new good ones, e.g., interaction with the environment in new ways. So it's a step in the right direction IMO. I'm glad that I bought it even though I think Larian made some really bad design decisions (e.g., combat is far too easy after the first couple of levels if you pick the "right" abilities and talents and probably too hard if you pick the wrong ones; according to what I've read, combat is too easy after level 6ish or so; the game seems to require you to play in the linear path that Larian designed if you want the dialog to make sense and your loot to be usable but also encourages you to deviate from that path). Larian took some risks instead of making a cookie cutter game and I want to encourage that.
I still hope that Pillars of Eternity, Torment: Tides of Numunera, and Underrail will turn out well. Or at least be like D:OS and have new elements that other devs will want to emulate.
