Release date now quietly pushed to Q3 2024
Either the developer massively over-estimated the development time or this is just a scam.

This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous.
I'm waiting for this exact game, I upgraded my PC just for it, and now we have to wait another 4 months?
I wouldn't be surprised if GTAV comes out before this game.

Scam's only work if you, you know get tricked into buying something. Unless they happened to have some open donation box that people are dumping money into, usually a scam game is going to come out as soon as interest has peaked and be incomplete garbage. A game being delayed is like the opposite indication of a scam, unless again it's someone that's just eating up donations and not doing anything.

If it were a scam, it wouldn't be pushed back lol. He is definitely at least trying. Game development is really tough because a project becomes only harder to complete the closer it is to completion. That is due to high complexity in systems and quality that all need to come together.

@Bourbinski The trailer for the game has over 2.4 Million views on top of the gameplay looking like its just a pre-made cinematic mixed with some "actual gameplay". It wouldn't surprise me if this game was never real in the fist place and this was all a marketing scheme to boost their YouTube. Then again, I really hope I'm wrong because the trailer looks sick.

It's not a scam, I think. It's just that it's like every other backroom game. It's a walking/maze simulator with "scary" monsters that make loud noises and chase you.

I think what's happening is that they're trying to polish up the visuals a lot more. I've played some of the alpha, and while it looks good, they definitely know how to put their best foot forward.

So yeah I think the game probably was announced early on into development, and they assumed they could just bang out a maze game with a dozen levels or so in a year and call it good. But they've gotten a ton of press so I presume they're trying to polish it up a lot. Kinda like unrecord. Similar story I think. Game blew up way beyond expectation so now the devs are afraid to reveal anything lest people get mad come release.

I just think they bit off more than they could chew. They made a couple of very pretty ray-traced levels, showed people, and then decided on a game philosophy later. On top of that, because they want the game to run non RT, that basically means the entire thing has to be baked and rendered lightning, with pbr and photoscanned objects etc etc. They do seem to have some of that, but doing that for all of the backrooms is an immensely time consuming task. Even if it were just RT, it still takes a while. You just save a bit of time on the lighting cost. Imo this is the stupidest thing they've done, come out and say that the game won't require RTX/Ray tracing. Because it's very hard to make a game as pretty as they've shown without it being a single hallway simulator.

Tldr; I'm entirely guessing but dev prob revealed way too early thinking it would be easy and fast to make the rest when in reality they maybe had 25% done.

Q3 is in two months. We'll see if a definite release is given, if the game even drops at all or if they quietly push it into Q4.
