Party or single character?
Do we get to control ( or have AI controlled) companions with us or are we stuck with just a single PC character?

You controll only your character. Although, during some fights there are other AI controlled characters on your side.

Yep, you will have some AI controlled allies in certain battles/encounters and you might want to care about their well-being or not. Depending on your whim, really. But you control one character.

Ok thats disappointing to hear. Guess it's a pass then

You should not pass it cANe , it is quite enjoyable as a RPG itself. Very replayable(and brutal at times). At least you can try out the demo before passing completely.

I did try the combat demo a long time ago and while the combat was fun and difficult I can't stand games like this where you are supposed to be on your own going up against superior numbers. It takes away all the immersion for me and I find no fun in it

Besicaly if go ageinst superior numbers youl got choped in to pices in this game.

You do not have to go up superior numbers always, it is possible to avert many such situations...for fights are generally optional. You can go against superior numbers and can chop THEM into pieces if you are combat oriented, has nice equipment and with some tactics. But true attacking groups will not be very wise in general.

@cANe: You should try the R3 demo to see the whole of the game mechanics. That would give you the immersion you need. Literally every situation can be averted in an optional way or you can always backdown from a fight.
