Locked out?
Is it possible that in some circumstances, making the wrong decision with your character can lock you out of completing the game properly? Right now, Gaelius is dead, and I did the speech check with the Inferiae demon when I was apparently supposed to kill him to get a key to Zamedi. I also did the quest where you convince Varro to assassinate Faelan, but it never actually happens and I'm just stuck waiting for an assassination that never happens. Paullus rejected me, just all my journal says is "find another way to break the siege". Thanks for the help, journal. I also permanently lost a power tube because I thought the mining outpost would give me SP but it only game me some blue steel and I can't take the power tube back out, meaning I'm stuck with only 2. I can't pass the int/con check for Meru's weird basement space-thingy, and nobody else I can talk to seems to have anything for me to do.

This is the 2nd time I've bumped into a dead end and had to reroll a new character. I really, really don't want there to be a 3rd.

Technically, there shouldn't be any dead ends, assuming you develop your character properly. For example, if you were to neglect your character's key skills, sooner or later you'd hit a point where you won't be able to handle quests.

Also, you don't have to get the key to Zamedi. Varro doesn't have to agree to kill Faelan and if he does, he says that he'll wait for the right moment.

Now, let's go step by step. I assume your character is working for the merchants guild. I assume the current quest is about breaking the siege but you failed to convince Paullus.

At the moment you should have two options:

- use the Sellsword Legion (go to Teron and talk to Linos)
- side with Strabos (I assume Maseus talked to you when you went to Caer-Tor)

What are your stats and skills? Can you post your character sheet?

That's my character, I just tried talking to the merc in Teron but all I got was a generic conversation that progressed until my only dialogue choice was "Leave". Is there something I'm missing that I had to do first? I also can't say anything to Strabos other than "Just tying up loose ends", so that option is out as well. I'm in Caer Tor after failing to convince Paullus and nobody will say anything to me, nor have I encountered anybody by the name of Maseus.

I also just tried speaking with Linos and can't do anything with him, either.

It seems you should have enough to convince Paullus. Not sure what went wrong there. Do you have a save game BEFORE going to Paullus that I can take a look at?

If yes, send it to info@irontowerstudio.com

An unusual thing that I've noticed about this game is the problems associated with validating the game cache.

A few days ago I checked integrity and got a whopping 40-something files wrong. I promptly uninstalled and reinstalled. After reading this thread I check integrity again and got more than a score of problem files.

I wonder if this doesn't have something to do with all the little unheralded updates that are made? If they don't take completely, could this cause gameplay anomalies?

I've just uninstalled and re-installed, and we'll see if I notice any difference. I have not, by the way, been having any particular troubles with the game.

The updates shouldn't really affect things. The two unheralded updates were:

1) fixes that helped people who for some reasons couldn't install the new Microsoft libraries manually and didn't get them automatically from Steam

2) The Russian translation update.

Anyway, that's why I want to see the save file and test it properly. Either I'll find a problem or tell John what he's doing wrong.

My apologies, I didn't have a chance to try your save until now. Comments:

1) You meet Maseus when you leave Ganezzar (when you open the map and click on Caer-Tor)
2) Save when you arrive to Caer-Tor and try different options. I failed on my first attempt and went to Teron, then tried again after I looked at your character sheet and realized that you have high CHA and succeeded with a persuasion/charisma check
3) In Teron talk to Antidas first, then Linos. I failed one check, but succeeded with the next.
4) You can also convince Paullus to attack Ganezzar as per Maseus' request.

So all 3 options are there and your character is good enough to use any of the options.

Alright, thanks for figuring that all out!
