Can't run and turn left at the same time with classic controls

Hi, I can't seem to get any help from google searches so I figured I'd ask here. The problem isn't just with doom2, in fact it's with any game I try to run in dosbox. If I'm holding shift and up to run forward, pressing the left arrow key to turn left does nothing. It pretty much renders all of these old games unplayable to me, at least the way I learned to play them when they were new.

If anybody has any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them!

Use a source port, zandronum, or GZDOOM for instance.
