DOOM II

DOOM II

What makes the Archvile so Imfamous?
I have started playing Doom and Mods for Doom II 2 days ago, but haven' played the actual Doom II vanilla game. However, I played a mod that featured Archviles in the first level, and after getting used to how their fire works, they weren't that bad. I heard that they can apparently resurrect enemies, but I never noticed that.

Maybe it has to do with the mod or maybe he couldn.t perform his necromancy magic cause I was continuously blessing him with a shotty.

It's all about how the map maper uses them, they can be either trivial or horrifying.

Is that the creepy-ass maze made out of wood with the horrifying music? I've heard of that one...

Listen. As with all enemies Archys if used incorrectly are pathetic and trivial. But used properly, a Archy can be the deadliest enemy. Think about if there was a large court yard with sparse cover. with an Archy on a distant tower within sight of you. If he sees you. You're dead. Unless you've hit the switches to raise the cover and survive his fire. Throw in some caco demons and demons and you will have a heck of a challenge! But if you put him in a tipsy turny corridor then an Archy is one of the most pathetic monsters. It's all about the map.

because they resurrect, it's as simple as that. smart mappers throw in a couple archviles at the end gate or at the final secret room to screw you over.

They knock you off ledges.

I always hated them resurrecting barons to soak up more precious ammo. :(

All depends on map design. Plenty of mappers either:

A) Place Archviles in areas with no cover so you're forced to just damage boost through their hitscan flame wall.

or

B) Put an archvile somewhere convenient so that you can't kill it and it infinitely resurrects enemies.
best if the map exit is where you started, and the archvile has free range in the map and it will resurrect all enemies it can, when you return all hell is broken loose

This should answer some of the questions if not all.

You download a nice wad like valiant but then the mapper forces you to fight in a small space with 5 arch viles with nothing but a rocket launcher and a shotgun and sometimes you need like 3 bfg shots to kill those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ some times i hate it when they use too many arch viles
