Properly configured, its the closest you’ll get to the original experience without the actual hardware.
If you’re getting drops with every game. It’s either A) You are using the king of toasters. Or B) You don’t know how to configure dosbox properly.
Oh yeah forgot C) You expect devs to care enough about old games to properly configure it.
I second this. I can attest that the GOG version thankfully doesn't have these problems with DOSBox (though you might want to tweak some settings to get better picture quality) and the GOG version of the Unity port seems to be updated compared to the Steam release (but somehow lost its ability to type cheats the old fashion way thanks to something the GOG staff did with these releases).
