No swastikas in the new version.
Why?

You can easily uncensor the game by grabbing the DOS version's wad and replace the one in the port with it.

No, you can't, since the new version uses Unity engine and not WAD-files.

Dude. It does use a wad file. It is located in the Doom_Data/Streamingassets folder.

Oh, I went into the directories and only found some weird Unity engine files. I'll take another look. Please excuse my wrongdoing. And thanks.

It doesn't take much work to restore them into the Unity port's IWAD, and as some with next-to-no Doom modding experience, I can prove that.

No worries. As long as you get to play Doom the way you want. We are all winners.

And what is interesting, the actual game logic and engine-side DOOM data is not in the Unity code too. It's in DoomLib.dll, LOL.

Not sure what that even means.

That has nothing to do with that. Germany doesn't generally censor swastikas in games anymore.

It does because that was the original reason that this censored version exists. Besides, plenty of other similar laws still exist in Europe, particularly in Austria.

DoomLib.dll is the actual "DOOM" program in the form of a loadable library.

If you have ever used the frontend "RetroArch" you would know the "Cores" are programs that run inside the frontend and are .dll files (.so on Linux and Android) which contain the entire logic of an emulator or game engine. RetroArch handles the video, input, sound, etc. and acts as an interface between the OS and the core.

Same goes for DoomLib in the Unity port - Unity provides video, audio, input, etc. whereas DoomLib provides the actual game logic.

I elected to replace the censored textures using Slade instead, since the new version of the WAD has some nice widescreen support. The new version may also have a few other things that the Unity engine needs to work properly, so I did not want to replace it entirely. There are a lot of new features in Unity that the DOS version never had.

Personally I don't mind the censoring. The green cross is a decent compromise and the wolfenstein levels are kind of ♥♥♥♥ anyway. So I just left the default wads in.

I went though a bit of E1, and the green crosses actually put me off a bit after 25 years of the red crosses. I'm hard-wired to think green = armour, and so when I'm quickly scanning a room, my brain takes longer to see the health, especially at a distance. I did mistake a stim for an armour bonus a couple of times.

Or perhaps I just need to admit that I need glasses.
