How to play Doom 2 w/ a Xbox 1 controller ?

Hi everyone, sorry for the bother, does anyone can tell me how can i play Doom 2 with a Xbox 1 controller ? I tried with basic instructions but i'm lost, if anyone could help ?! Thanks a lot

You can't really use a controller with the vanilla DOS version of Doom (although there is the mapper program built in DOSBox to bind key mappings to the controller, but it's obiviously not designed for controllers). If you're looking to play the classic Doom games with a controller, you'll need to grab ZDoom (depricated), GZDoom (active), or QZDoom (experimental) source ports since they support common controllers if you're looking to play mods and Doom in higher resolutions with other improvements. If you're looking for a more classic type of experience with Doom on a controller, try the Doom Retro source port, a fork of Chocolate Doom with better controller support plus vibration feedback on XInput controllers and added some optional modern touches (transparency effects, more blood, bug fixes) while remaining faithful to the old-school feel of playing Doom on an old DOS machine.
