*SPOILER* Wave battle

[HALO 3]

Is the fight just outside of the village's bridge surmountable, or does it continue endlessly? This is the battle where, before it, Pavol comments: "As many as snakes in a nest! Run away!" and an option to fight or to retreat is given. The enemies when defeated leave behind items, so I assume yes-- but twice now I've made it to about half way through wave 3, at which point Pavol and his battered men have been run completely ragged and all that's left is wounds.

It's a long fight. Just want to know if it is a wall I'm beating my head against.

I'm curious about it as well. Similarly as you, I managed to get to half of a 3rd wave myself. Now I want to load my save file try to get further.

Welp. It seems like it is indeed endlees battle. Tried to beat it right now and managed to get to 5th wave, where all my supplies ran dry and I been overhelmed.

Goodly man, these advices are well to be heeded, though I inquire for the purposes of curiosity, not of necessity. It is a seeming challenge enough that I wonder if a great prize might be held behind it... and if not, for completion alone is enough.

but it seems that accomplishing this task may require a playthrough with some increased amount of forward planning... I know given my current circumstances and lack of resource, I have little choice other than looping back around for another attempt in another save, another life.

yes, you are supposed to loose, actually not to even try to fight them :) It's like when you get to Ida's basement, I wrote the story that you'll just loose, but Jozo made also the real possibility that you can win.

That's another thing that I wanna test.

There is 5 waves, if you beat them all Pavol simply says, "We did it guys, we beat the cultists." And then it drops you back to main menu. Just like how if you defeat the knight with uh, the priest. He says something along the lines of, "I'm the hero, I'm going to turn the brothel into a monastery."

Yep. Ida encounter pretty beatable. All you need to do is just not to loot stuff outstide castle before you meet her in a barn and just pick it up later.

YOU CAN BEAT THEM!
After a lot of attempts, and employing the help of the Mercenary (to the right), I was able to fight all five waves of eight cultists each.
When you kill the final, 40th cultist, you leave combat and Pavol says "No a single cultist remains! We won at life." before sending you to the title screen.
No matter if you beat them or not, it ends your game if you enter that fight. But now I have the bragging rights.
If you want to attempt it, you need to buy a whole lot of porridge and even more plum wine.

Barely beaten it first try, but was dissapointed by result.
But ultimately its fine, epic win, I guess
Still some unique armor/weapon as a reward would have been much more interesting and appropriate

Zombie post ik, however trying to fight the horde led me to discovered tactics. ill share
1- pre-battle buffs are kept but post battle are removed
2- you can cancel gunpowder's reload with sour cream (matej moves the slowest)
3- sour cream's buffs r goated and stack
