There is still a players' community who likes developing game modes, creating maps, running events.
You can join the Shootmania discord here: https://discord.me/shootmania
The Smurfs team runs Royal cups every Sunday: https://www.smurfen.nu/royal
And the Paragon team runs several cups per week: https://league.paragon-esports.com/cups.
On the Shootmania discord, many other discord links are announced as well.
Have Fun :)
Though, I hope this game can make some kind of comeback. Not sure if free-to-play is the way to go or if some nice additions to the game or more exposure on steam / marketing would be the best bet, but it might be to late for that.
I also wish steam had some functionality that makes grouping up to play online easier to help games with weak communities / low numbers of players. Not only with shootmania but for a lot of games with a similar situation I think there are actually quite a few people who would like to come back to it if there were enough people playing.
There are still players on Shootmania who creating maps, titles, run competitions. However most of Shootmania players come from France and Europe countries.
You can play on channels for free: https://www.maniaplanet.com/channels/shootmania/grid
There is a Royal Smurfscup every Sunday: https://www.smurfen.nu/royal.
Paragon team runs Elite cups every week as well: https://league.paragon-esports.com/cups.
Alinoa can we talk a bit about your game? Like theres litteraly maximum 10 people connected at the same time at this game. I wasnt able to refund this game because of a steam policy that I didnt know . This game is unfortunately dead , I bought it because of my nostalgy but I cannot enjoy it anymore . Sad. I hope that you will make this game F2P so people could join the game and enjoy a good game. This game is gone and this is the only way to put it back on track. Anyway , no use to say , I have lost hope.
-easy setup for servers, so anyone can host a server in any part of the world and play with a decent ping.
please, consider add this features later on.
today you can only play this game if you're in europe. Shootmania is awesome and useless right now, since i cant even play offline and play with a 300 ping isnt that great.
He spoke the truth , the game is awesome , but the only promotion about the game was made at the release and only in France i live in NA now , nobody know that game i've shown it to some friends they loved it but they arent ready to buy it if 10people only are online everyday + these guys are beasts , so as a new player you cant really play , i dont know if offline / bots game are the solution because bots require an AI that is really hard and long to create but the easy setup of P2P servers could be great. You should also make the beginner servers alive again , back in the days they were "ubisoft beginner servers" 64 slots if i remember well , those servers had a real matchmaking to welcome beginners and make them want to play the game more because right now even if you made a facebook campaign and many peoples buy the game nothing will be there to welcome them , they wouldnt be able to log on most of the servers because these servers are 90k.
Please nadeo if you could make something about that game , many people just wait easier ways to access your game in order to play it
Players nowadays prefer games were they get tons of content and evolvment in as short as possible playtime. If you take CoD for example. Kill 1 guy and level up like 10 levels, get covered in skills and weapon upgrades and get some fancy badges and titles.
Shootmania doesn't offer any ingame success except the elo/rank system and winning a game, obviously.
And don't get me wrong I love that about Shootmania because it really is a purely skill based game which was the reason for me that I was playing it since the beta and spent countless hours playing this game.
But the biggest "problem" is that Shootmania can get frustrating pretty fast, especially for new players since the only way of winning/ achieving decent scores is to have a excellent aim and movement skills. No ways of getting better through help of the game like different weapons, improved stats or whatever games like CoD offer nowadays.
If you played Shootmania in it's peak you probably noticed that there were tons of people playing the game in the beginning but the active player numbers drastically decreased in a very short period of time. Left over where basically only people who have been really good and playing since a long time.
On the one hand it was a blessing because it created a awesome community of players with the same interest in the game and a closer skillgap between those playing the game which resulted in less frustration and more personal will to actually beat this one specific player or win this cup or be better then this clan etc.
But on the other hand it resulted in basically a dead game. A already small community shrinked through players leaving for various reasons (me included(no time at that moment)) and it kept shrinking to the present day where only a handfull of players are still playing the game.
Oh and even those who still play this game only appear to play it around the cup/tournament times which makes a revival through new people joining almost impossible since Shootmania would need atleast a couple thousand new players joining at once.
However, it would be awesome if the game could pull a revival off and or a Shootmania 2 wouldn't be that bad either.
