Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy

Graphics are poor
The graphics for this game are very poor they dont look like they have advanced hardly at all in over 16 years since the first game? Very lazy of the devs to keep creating these games and not improving them each time I think. They still look pretty much the same as when I first looked at a Combat Mission game years and years ago.

My one hope is the transition to the new engine is smoother than the CMSF original release. I think BFC came very close to blowing their entire franchise with the way that game was released in 2007. Its a very different game than it is now. They did a good job of backtracking and recovering to get it squared away.

That pushed a lot of original players away. Hope they are a little more cognizant of their market this time around.
I remember some of the controversies that some had with the new engine. They used the developer's own previous quotes about BFC 'not doing a real time game' against him. They didn't like the 1:1 representation and how what we saw and what was simulated didn't match i.e., the uncanny valley. There was no blue bar. And, of course, the biggest of them all - it was a modern era game set in a fictional war in Syria alienating the WW2 grogs.

I don't think CMx3 will face any of these issues. If anything, it will probably address the main issue we see expressed in this thread. And a new UI would be welcome too. But as sure as sure can be, a very small number of folks will hate the new engine with a passion and a small number of them will be active online hating it and the folks who play it. Why they will hate it remains to be seen.

Graphics for a realistic and tactical game are fine.

I would like to see more better handled multiplayer lobby maybe with the coop option.

More advanced campaign? There is a lot of space for potential upgrades rather than graphic.

I prefer a good AI (global, tactical AI), a better pathfinding, a better "positionning" of soldiers, a set of orders (follow the road etc etc), better use of the ressources of my computer, more realistic physics, better sounds engine (the actual is not bad, but better is better)...

There are graphics mods available. Try this one:

The graphics and performance are abysmal, unless this is the only game you play? There's no other game exactly like it unfortunately, so you have to put up with it if you want to play this type of game. Just don't ever pay full price.
For the graphics, yes, there are probably much better, but not in this category of game. The problem is also that many maps are made quickly without taking into account the Normandy geography. The overall visual impression is poor in the end (but of course that does not excuse these graphics that a few mods improve a little: the buildings in particular). The big asset is the map editor which significantly extends the life expectancy of this game. Only WWII wargame enthusiasts (company and battalion level) will find today what they are looking for. But I imagine that we are all waiting for a CMBN3 (or even a CMSF3) with current graphic standards. And if possible without too much DLC!! Otherwise we will wait with The Troop

But lots of people complaining about lag etc. They need to update the engine to support 6 cores for speeding up the game as well. I can understnad a small dev not being able to do this every game release but every 2-3 years there should be a major update in the engine.
I 100% agree on this. It's nearly impossible to play on large/huge urban maps even after optimizing the game to run at its best. They've announced a new engine upgrade which will hopefully add multi-core support and x64 but who knows when that'll release.
Still waiting on any word from Slitherine about the updates...

I like the graphics. I find them charming.
