Had to write something regarding all the 'negative' reviews -

I seen Tangents (a twitch streamer) stream a day ago (this was Jan 26 for reference),

and man steam has crazy confused gamers rating games.

This game is inundated with 'negative' reviews -

yet steam is FULL of absolute GARBAGE 2D 'platformer' and / or 'first person' hack-job shooter crap,

and along comes an mmo that is actually relatively well done in many ways (more on this in a sec),

and people can't stop negative 'review-bombing' it,

for what?

Because it has connectivity issues at launch (how many countless mmos also did in the past?)

and a cash shop that every mmo has nowadays.

Really gamers?

There was almost no actual feedback about the game itself at all, other than trashing how a bunch of people decided to do what most people want to do -

make a game using available resources, (called 'assets' in 3D terminology) ,

and trying to make a buck off it too (called 'cash shops' in mmos).

Give it up people,

seriously, go take all this decisive action you got going and rate the ACTUAL GARBAGE on steam,

there's TENS of THOUSANDS of absolute _garbage_ games on steam where are your reviews on those?

As for this game itself, and why the incessant negative spamming is insane,

I seen Tangents stream (as mentioned earlier) a day ago,

and the game was not only 'fine', but it was quite enjoyable to watch even playable and 'fun'.

The biggest noticable thing about this game is that the devs somehow actually bothered to take all the 'best' aspects of all the other mmos they must've played over their lifetime and melded it all up in a very playable and smooth package.

The 'big' problem the game has is that is has almost no identity of it's own,

it completely lacks any art style and is as 'generic' as you can get -

the assets are clear 'assets' and there's nothing wrong with that,

but the whole thing comes across so 'generic' you're wondering why you're even playing it in the first place.

Thoughts on why I'm writing a thread to 'defend' something when everyone's enjoying their private mstrbtn session attacking it -

There are ACTUAL 'bad' mmos if you want to attack one - Inferna is one of them,

if you play Inferna, and then _this_,

you'd be shocked at how 'good' this game is.

Next, there is _nothing_ inherently 'broken' or bad like all the reviewers seem to say,

the game is not 'great', yes, but it isn't 'unplayable' or 'painful' or anything like that,

watching Tangents stream on twitch playing the game was one of the most fun sessions I had watching a stream in a long time,

reason being it was nice to see the game itself (more on the game in a sec) along with Tangent's 'no-nonsense' approach to the game,

he wasn't paid to play it and couldn't have cared less if anybody liked it or not,

but he played it for a solid 4+ hours ( left before he finished his stream, maybe he played it for 8 or more hours I don't know),

and it was quite fun to watch, many aspects were great about the game not limited to but including -

- things were well thought-out, stuff like fishing involved an actual 'mini-game' so that fishing 'paid off' more if you actually took part in it,

but it also had the 'afk' version of fishing which you could use, you don't get such great results but the option was there.

Point is you'd be surprised how many mmos don't do all that - they either give you a 'mini-game' but don't allow for 'afk' fishing,

or, it's all 'afk' style and it doesn't matter whether you involve yourself or not.

This is only one thing and the examples continue -

Running etc animations (contrary to what many 'negative' reviewers are saying) are quite smooth and after playing and seeing a bazillion games they are actually some of the best around,

they are NOT 'billion dollar company' smooth but they are _excellent_ compared to most games,

again we see the problem with reviewers treating the game like in the same 'camp' as the highest budget mmos,

if you do that _of course_ it's not going to look 'good',

but compare it to all the trash on steam it's one of the 'best' around.

The attack animations are great, they are solid, hard-hitting and really feel like you're attacking something,

that can't be said for most games on steam.

You have all kinds of weapon choices, skills, upgrades etc.

Again, where are all these negative reviews pointing to? The game has and offers a lot more than many other games,

perhaps we need to stop comparing it to the absolute 'best' mmo around and look at it for what it is.

I found it to have many features and mechanics that are hugely time-saving, fast and efficient for an mmo gamer,

again it has many features that are not in many other mmos (for example you gain 'weapon' levels as you use them )

Gaining levels for the type of weapon you use is _not_ an 'industry wide' standard but ever since seeing it in Borderlands (i.e. you use a machine gun you get machine gun experience and that lets you 'level' your machine gun skill so that any machine gun you use is better),

I consider that a fantastic aspect to gaming (since you now have more things to 'level', not just your character but the weapons you use etc),

yet few use it, but this game does.

It has minimal 'story' dialogue (some see that as 'bad', I don't, I want to play a game and not read incessant 'dialogue' about people's fictional problems in a fake world),

it has an auto-run functionality that actually 'speeds' up your movement when engaged - you can select a place on the map and your character will run (or horse-ride) there at a faster speed while you're afk and co do something else.

Again, something like that should be 'standard' in mmos but it isn't.

The examples are endless,

it has crafting, a large map, supposedly boat use, etc etc.

People need to get a grip on their gaming experiences and try to treat games more fairly.

About the 'cash shop',

Age of Conan has a cash shop, what's your point?

Who cares, regarding people who talk about 're-selling assets',

asset stores have different types of 'licenses' depending on if you plan to resell those assets in-game or not,

the assumption should be made that the devs paid for that type of license,

if they did, they have free range to 're-sell' whatever they want however they want,

asset makers and asset stores weren't 'born yesterday', they are fully aware this type of thing might happen and put certain license and license stipulations for their products that allow for these kinds of practices.

Again, grow up people, stop attacking half-decent games (in fact this one was way above par in my opinion),

and go 'judge' the actual garbage out there on steam.

Almost forgot,

one thing that caught my eye and I _Really_ enjoyed,

was that the game is 'pro-warrior',

this mmo game , unlike the VAST majority of mmos,

gives warriors respect, the game is designed (as far as I could tell) WITHOUT tab targeting,

which means it takes ACTUAL SKILL to 'attack', you can't just 'sit back' , tab something, and spam your magic / ranged skills at it,

you need to actually aim, point, move etc.

Watching Tangent was hilarious (as in a good way) at some points because he was using a warrior and was able to 'run around' and avoid a lot of ranged archer and magic shots directed at him,

which actually allowed him to 'win' in pvp even though he barely started the game.

This is HUGE,

this almost never happens in 'other' mmos because almost all 'other' mmos are pro-mage pro-archer and completely SHAFT warriors,

always the warrior has to 'get close', but meanwhile he's being barraged by endless amounts of ranged 'spam' all because it's "EZ Mode" for mages and archers with their 'tab-targeting' etc.

NONE of this is addressed in all the negative reviews,

just people slapping their genitals about the same tired issues - using 'assets' (that's what they're there for folks - people make assets hoping game developers will buy them, big surprise.. ),

log-in issues (which almost ALL mmos have nowadays) (also note if you 'spam' click fast the server you will get in, same way tangent did after being told that by someone else)

and really nothing else valid,

after 4 hours that I watched, I didn't see one 'bug', the game worked fine for him and he never got 'stuck' anywhere doing anything.

As mentioned earlier, the game's -Biggest- problem is by far only _One_ thing --

it's exceedingly 'generic' look, it has no art style whatsoever (even though the assets are pretty good),

and it suffers from that 'brown gray drab' muddy look common in a lot of games without artistic direction -

similar to Mortal Online 2 etc (everything is 'brown').

I wanted to point this out cause this game really made a big effort to be a 'smooth' enjoyable experience for the players,

it's not perfect, but it doesn't have anything really 'bad' about it like so many reviewers want to feel good saying.

Wanted to point this out for people wanting to try the game, it's nowhere near as bad as reviewers make it out to be (Tangent himself was saying that repeatedly to new people in the stream asking about it),

and there are a heck of a lot more games out there that actually deserve the negative reviews.

I personally want to try the game out myself some more,

because it has a lot of completionist aspects that I enjoy in gaming,

but it's not pretentious or trying to be something it's not,

which nowadays I value highly because I'm tired of playing games trying to be 'fancy' but just end up making me frustrated with broken mechanics and weird game-play systems.

The above but summarized.

"The game is receiving unfair negative reviews. Common complaints include connectivity issues and a cash shop, standard in modern MMOs. Critics mention the use of pre-made assets, but this is a normal practice in game development. Though the game lacks a unique art style and looks generic, its gameplay mechanics are smooth and engaging.

Watching Tangent, a Twitch streamer, highlighted the game's positives. The fishing system includes a mini-game that rewards active participation while allowing for passive play. Combat animations are fluid and impactful, with a variety of weapons and skills available. Notably, the game features skill-based combat without tab-targeting, giving melee classes like warriors a fair chance against ranged opponents.

Instead of focusing solely on negatives, we should acknowledge the game's strengths. It deserves balanced feedback and recognition for its thoughtful design and enjoyable experience. Let's support games that bring genuine value to players."

It's dying. It's not dead yet. I've watched enough streams to know the reviews are BS from hurt children who weren't raised right, so saving the game from actual death will depend on factors such as how much fun the people who play in still-full servers have, how much money the devs have on hand and how much they make as income and how much longer the streamers can pile on even the most negative or reviews, which will at least bring more players to the game that might not otherwise tried it in a vacuum.

there is always people defending game that is fraud, how can you defend a game that relase in EA and deliveres really bad and can't take critics, ex: you go to a car workshop, you did a bad break work you tell the guy and he just "like i care". this is the same. Develop a game and take responsibilty and not delivere a really broken game and then this EA is really going out of hand.

You my friend hit the nail on the head as they say inn olden days. You do not beat around the bush and tell it straight.
This game is simply a really gross low class looking BDO copy cat down to not only UI but, movement keys, knowledge gaining , activities, fishing, I mean identical to the most moronic detail. The only difference is BDO is what an MMO is supposed to be when you pay for it. The graphics and story and art and optimization is correct. I get 144fps straight 100% of the time...in BDO rarely it will go down a few points in Calpheon or other major populated areas to like 120fps on full ASS Very High or ULTRA settings...with my I9- 13th Generation, RTX 3080 Nvidia GPU 8gb(DDGR), 32gb RAM on a SSD...with nothing else running in the background on Turbo mode, ...This cheap mobile poorly done carbon copy cat piece of ♥♥♥♥ gets 4fps on my PC no matter how high or low I set it....I am not kidding I made videos of it with my smart phone...4 not 40 flipping 4fps maximum....New World fully Ultra full blast 144fps none stop looks like paradise and I could drink the water so awesome...this developer used coders that have no clue what they were doing and used some weird ass spaghetti code that Lord knows what kind of damage it is doing while running on any system, that is UNPLAYABLE and why would anyone even try to justify this ♥♥♥♥ or defend it? Why?

BDO is technically poor now and a barbie doll simulator.
The Quinfall actually look like very early BDO before it was published by Kakao if you know of it... and it is actually quite a positive thing I believe.

Bro, its not even a game. It's just a huge AI generated landmass without any POI, quests, dungeons, voice acting, events, battlegrounds, dungeon finder etc.
Oh, sorry, it's a SANDBOX! Nowadays game without any content called like that, yeah.
Yes because looking like a game that was released 12 years ago 2 weeks ago is always a good sign. I didn't think about that.

NO it is not. It has 4-5,000 players online together at once still today. So it has more than Pantheon that has higher reviews and Pantheon is much worse of a game.

Quinfall has a lot of players, some of the most of any mmorpg on steam right now other than the top 4-5.

This game looks and plays way better than pantheon, so why are people trying to make bad reviews on this game, but not on that one? That game actually took in tons of money for the past 12 years and has a game less playable in Pantheon after that long development.

So this is what the OP is saying, you are hating on a game that is better than many others and it has a cheap entry $20.. Pantheon is $40 and going to charge monthly fee later too.
