I don't consider reddit to be the pinnacle of online discussion but it is one of several places I will often look for more information about a game. I tried this with The Quinfall. I found three different subreddit pages, the newest posts were 7 months old on one page and 1 year old on the other two pages. Considering that the game just entered early access this seems very strange.

Does anyone that might be familiar with one or more of these Quinfall subreddits have any idea what the situation might be with them? I've only seen this lack of activity in similar circumstances when a subreddit has essentially been taken over and shut down by people that want to control information posted about a game.

Your theory would jive with the reports of people being banned from discord for making mildly negative remarks. Despite all the issues with this game, hearing about that was the thing that stopped me giving it a go. Such pathetic behaviour which has backfired for people like me who were on the fence.
