Cows, crops and workers.

So, I try to make a farm. Crops are dying becouse of water (well i guess i cannot leave them before sleep even on 100% of water). But cows died too (i feed them before sleep). Im pretty confused how am I supposed to care for them when i go to sleep and work. (Or meaby other players can kill them even in safe zone?- farm is placed in blue flaged land) I read somwhere that Im supposed to use npc workers but again, I cannot find any info where or how to hire them. Pls help :)

I would like to get answer if my cattle was somehow stealed/ killed or wtf hhappened? xd Becouse now, I dont know if I should build fort to keep cows inside it or something else happened. Also it would be stupid to build ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fort for cattle.

how long did you have them they get old and i assume they die if you dont slaughter them

I had them around 24h to 34h but Im not sure since they dissapeared over night.

update.
So, I made a small experiment with a friend.
I put one cow in to my land and ask him to try steal/kill it anyhow.
He could not did that. neither by attack, or by interact with it. He took lasso and tried used it on cow, but game told him that he can use it only on wild animals. He tryied several differend methods and finally give up.
So my only trope is that they died from either lack of food or old.
The problem is that (if i understand the game corectly) cow should live around 3 days ( lets say that 2 and half) an my died after one day and one night after I leaved them and went to sleep and work. So, i guess they died from lack of food suplie. And that means that the food factor have short time before they become to starve. I want to sacrafice one cow that ill not feed to see how long she will survive. Meaby that will finnaly give me answer what happened. Yet I hope that Im wrong becouse around 16h to die from starvation will be harash from me as a working person.

So that must be the case. The cow i put in house behaind walls didnt died in the same (and even longer time). Actually food factor and age of this cow didnt chenged much after night&work (i leaved it alone around 23h as you can see in the date of my piervous messege) with means that food or old age was not the case. Since game prevent them from beeing stealed/killed and they can survive enought time even for casual player to back and feed them in time, then only explenation are cheats. The sad conclusion from this topoic is: if anyone want to have farm and stock, it must be behaind tall wall or else cheaters will destroy it.

edit. good to notice is that whole case was in blue flaged zone. - You are not safe there with your farm.
