How does pierce and chain interact?

If i get chain up does it chain sideways instead of piercing making the pierce useless?
Or does it somehow work together?

My understanding - without thoroughly testing it, but as someone who used to do Pierce + Chain together - is that your shot will chain *after* it's exhausted all its pierces. So if it can pierce through three enemies to hit a fourth, the chain will trigger on that fourth hit.

This can be... really, really bad if your build relies on a lot of chaining for on-hit effects, since if it *doesn't* land that fourth hit then it'll just never chain.

Grain of salt though, it's entirely idle observation and there's no good documentation for this game yet :P

Pierce breaks a few things because after the first hit, it no longer procs on-hit effects. So not only does it ♥♥♥♥ up the chain, it ♥♥♥♥♥ up splinters and meteors and other such things. Chain, however, works properly with everything sans pierce

Chain and pierce works ONLY on the initial attack, meaning after the first shot, it continues as "pierce" but shoots another bullet that "chains". honestly op, would recommend doing both if you're doing a proc build.

Chain doesn't count as an initial attack once it chains, but I assume that Pierce does since it's the same projectile. So I would assume that a pierce can chain into a Chain, but a Chain can't chain into a pierce.

How are you getting this info? I think it would be obvious if pierce broke effects like that and I haven't noticed it.
