One guy blasting his way into a base and stealing the giant circuit board containing the Death Star plans is pretty far fetched, so I like Rogue One's story better.
My favorite is from the old Han Solo origin trilogy, where his first girlfriend joins the Rebellion and her team sacrifices themselves creating a distraction so that an unnamed agent can infiltrate the base and steal the plans. It works with the idea that Kyle stole the plans but makes it a little more believable that he was able to get in and out of a high security facility alone (or that the Rebellion would trust a mission that important to a single merc).
I perfectly respect the way of prefering Katarn's way of getting the plans as canon.
Valve is even more open to canon than any other franchise-owner when it comes to Half-Life.
I didn't know about this and it sounds so ♥♥♥♥♥♥' amazing than this moot "SOLO: A Star Wars story" movie we got.
Then again, I still stick to my preference with Jyn Erso, but still... I'm happily playing all addtional remasters of Legends Stories they give us.
I'm still a great fan of TFU. Even though I prefer the first one despite of being a legend story.
The second one - however - has also some sort of additional bonus points, after that quite weird revival of Palpatine in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Then again, AFAIK there was a book which now belongs to the Legends which either included a clone of Palpatine.
So I guess Disney is gonna milk out the most even of the Legends. :/
I just hope that we get clean remasters like this one. Despite the price, I really enjoyed playing the initial adventure of Kyle again. :)
Looking forward to further remasters.
Same with Dark Troopers. They're a thing, but now they're robots only, but not the skeletal looking Phase 1 Dark Troopers from this game, they look like metal Stormtroopers with red eyes and Rom Mohc isn't a character anymore.
I'm glad some of the old EU stuff is being brought back, but it's not really "my" old EU once they've worked it into the new canon. : \
Of course, a lot of the old EU was bad, or conflicted with other EU stories, so I don't blame Disney for cherry-picking the good stuff, I just wish they'd take more of it so they didn't need to change so much.
Aside of that, I also like how they dealed with long-running characters through various shows.
Cad Bane for example:
I somewhat liked / disliked this guy throughout all of these series.
And really found it quite satisfactory seeing his end in the Book of Boba.
Then again, we are speaking about non-canon.
I do not mind if they cherry-pick characters of the Legends, as long as they do not abandon the legends.
Like with Kyle.
He's a legend!
When I think about a JK II and JK Academy in Unreal 5 with multiplayer.
I wonder if I would go for the competition again, despite of sucking at it. ^^
One can dream...
Dark Forces is cute. But the Death Start was a big deal for the empire and it wouldn't be this simple to get it.
Meanwhile in a cooler timeline, gigachad Kyle Katarn gets the Death Star plans *by himself* and DOESN'T DIE and I don't even think he got dirty. I prefer Dark Forces.
Compared to the most recent ones, I think it's quite good.
Kyle himself pokes fun about how easy they were to get. ^^
And as Vidal pointed out, it normally wouldn't have been so simple.
But it works in the game, also because it was never revealed how the plans then actually got onto the rebel ship with Leia on board.
So there is a lot room for own imaginations on the Legends timeline.
Rogue One completely fleshes that out, as the ending serves as an intro for Episode IV.
Like, did you want me to explain to you that you shouldn't take everything literally, that I do in fact understand and appreciate that people like things I don't, and what hyperbole means?
